If you're after ideas for what to read this summer, look no further than our round-up of the best summer reads for 2019.

One very lucky person can win all the books featured on the page - worth over £600.

To enter, simply tell us your favourite female character from a book (old or new and from any genre).

A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Monday 15 July. Usual terms and conditions apply. Note that because of the size and weight of the prize box, we are only able to deliver to mainland UK addresses.

I loved Eleanor Oliphant, the ups and downs and how self contained she was. Also have to say belle from Beauty & the Beast! A fellow book lover

I read more or less only historical fiction, based in fact. My favourite character is Eleanor of Aquitaine in a trilogy of books from Sharon Penman, When Christ and His Saints Slept, Time and Chance and the Devil's Brood.
She was married to Henry II and was mother of Richard Lionheart and King John (of Magna Carta infamy). Her life story would be unbelievable if it were not documented and she lived until the age of 80, quite a feat in the 12th Century.
