If you're after ideas for what to read this summer, look no further than our round-up of the best summer reads for 2019.

One very lucky person can win all the books featured on the page - worth over £600.

To enter, simply tell us your favourite female character from a book (old or new and from any genre).

A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Monday 15 July. Usual terms and conditions apply. Note that because of the size and weight of the prize box, we are only able to deliver to mainland UK addresses.

OOH, too many to choose from!! Perhaps, in the end, more than Jane Eyre or Jo March or so many other fantastic female characters, it has to be Orlando (Virginia Woolf) as she had it both ways and learnt how to have the best of both worlds – as a man and a woman – in a time when women still didn't have the freedoms we take for granted today. Orlando was perfectly modern – and a trailblazer: fearless, adventurous and amorous, too!! My vote has to be for Woolf's most empowered and unconventional woman, a really inspirational character who has gone on to inspire Ali Smith and so many other female writers today.
