If you're after ideas for what to read this summer, look no further than our round-up of the best summer reads for 2019.

One very lucky person can win all the books featured on the page - worth over £600.

To enter, simply tell us your favourite female character from a book (old or new and from any genre).

A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Monday 15 July. Usual terms and conditions apply. Note that because of the size and weight of the prize box, we are only able to deliver to mainland UK addresses.

Vera as portrayed in the books by Anna Cleeves but I also go along with many of the above. Glad to see the Alphabet books mentioned - I was struggling to think of the detective’s name before deciding on Vera instead as she hasn’t got a mention so far.

- Cassandra Mortmain - I capture the Castle - Dodie Smith . Yes she wrote 101 Dalmatians - but this is a gem of a book that everyone should read at least once. It is the book I give to people as a present most often. read it !
There was a film - but ignore that read the book !
