Visiting the local swimming baths 3 or 4 times a week and remaining in their until thrown out by the staff when they inspected your fingers which were usually wrinkled from being in the water too long.

I loved climbing trees . Unfortunately my sense of balance wasn’t good , still isn’t , so I would have been safer listening to the radio !

While all my friends had bicycles, I had this amazing tubular steel one-seater pedal go-kart. It was great, it was different, and everybody wanted a go on it.

Living near open countryside, our cycles were our passport to adventure - and sometimes misadventure. Trespass, scrumping, poaching, danger climbing, wild swimming. We could be gone all day and not even need to inform our parents. The supposed threats were just as great, society just wasn't collectively neurotic about child safety.

Playing cards with my parents and brother, laughing lots as we wrote the scores down after each round

What's The Time, Mr. Wolf? was one my favourite games I enjoyed as a child. We would line up behind Mr. Wolf and ask him the time. At this point Mr. Wolf would say"eating time!" , he then would chase and grab his victim! Very exciting!

Living by the beach, swimming 2 or 3 times a day with all the visitors. When they had gone we collected empty lemonade bottles they'd left behind on our 2 beaches and returned them to the shop to collect the deposits paid. This was usually enough to buy us some chips and lemonade, followed by a large ice cream wafer and some games of putting in the park.

I lived in the centre of Liverpool no greenery. I was a girl guide and just loved going camping and hiking in the countryside.

When I was a little girl I spent so many hours doing cat’s cradle. I lived it and I recently taught my 8 year old granddaughter who has really taken to it!

My Father used to take myself, and my brother and sister on a walk every Sunday afternoon without fail, come wind, rain or shine. I can see now it was to give my Mum a break for a few hours....but we always went looking for cowboys and Indians - and I will never forget walking up a country lane and in the distance we saw a huge teepee in a farm field - it was like finding gold haha!

Doing jigsaws. It was just after the war. I had three and did them over and over, then I mixed them together and did them that way, then I turned them over and completed them from the wrong side.

My Dad used to be able to make clothes hangers for my Tressey dolls's wardrobe. I used to love arranging the clothes in the wardrobe. And mostly I used to love standing watching my Dad make the clothes hangers in his shed. I have very fond memories.

The long summers, I can remember going down the local park with the river running through, my sister's and I used to put our skirts into our knicker's wade into the water ( in the shallow bits) and catch the tiny fish and tadpoles, putting them in a jam jar and carrying them home, to the horror of our mother, We loved our little adventures with a bottle of water and some jam sandwiches.
