one evening when i was little we made a family board game. It took days to complete but me my parents and sister all had an input.... to this day i still have the game all these years later its a yearly christmas tradition to get it out for a go with the grandkids!
Playing 'letterboxes' on the stairs with my friend Mandy. It involved each of us having a box with a list of names of the children in our school class. We would mark the register after calling out the names. We would each teach our imaginary pupils. Played for hours and hours. No idea why we called it 'letterboxes' though.
I used to love going hay making, we were allowed to ride on top of the bales of hay as we rode around the fields on the tractor and trailer gathering in the hay and straw.
I remember making little gardens in tin lids lined with moss for grass and a mirror for the pond. I used twigs and cones for trees and flower heads pushed into the moss. I had a collection of small porcelain animals (I think they were called Whimsy) and the animals would inhabit my 'garden'.
I remember being at grandma's making the gardens and drawing and painting beneath a gas lamp which hissed constantly. I can hear it now.
I loved picking rose petals from the garden and making ‘perfume’ by steeping them in a little water. I can conjure up the scent even now! I would have been about 8 years old.
I was a gymnast when I was younger. I had an old mattress that was kept in a shed at the bottom of the garden. Whenever I had a new move to learn dad and I would drag the mattress into the garden. He would support me and help me learn the move. He was the first person to see me do the splits, somersault forwards and backwards and so many other moves. He was never pushy, always encouraging and proud when I accomplished something. I would love to have that relationship again. He died in 2014. I miss him everyday
I used to love playing with my charlies angels kit with my cousin, putting on pretend lippie and hiding the plastic jewels and shooting the plastic gun lol xx
Marbles .... we used to play on the street for hours - finding a small hole in the pavement and having to knock all the marbles into the hole to win your friends pile! I had tins full of them and you don't see them at all nowadays x
It has to be catch n kiss played at infant school. It was always game over if I got caught or my boyfriend Bobby got caught as we would just end up chasing and kissing each other. Haha!
It has to be my bright red go-kart, i whined and whined for this go-kart, my parents didnt have much money at all, times were really hard, but as a child that didnt bother me, i just wanted this go-kart and this Christmas thats what i got, it was bright red with black pedals and shiny silver wheels, oh how i loved that kart, i was on it all day everyday and i used to play cowboys and indians on it with my silver Rifle, my poor parents, its a Christmas i will never forget
We lived on a council estate with a green at the bottom of our road we just all played there from dusk until dawn. Our mums could look out of there windows and check on us
Postman’s Knock was a popular game at party’s when I was younger. A party game in which a kiss is exchanged for a pretend letter! Lol used to cause a lot of embarrassment now leaves me with funny fond memories
Exploring woods and sand dunes to find the natural world, such as hares boxing and snakes in the grass, under the open skies - so diffrent from the rows of terraced houses I lived in.
