It's that time of year again...

If you are stuck for gift ideas for family/friends, look no further than our round-up of the best books for Christmas. From psychological thrillers to women's fiction, autobiographies to cookbooks (and everything in between), there really is something for everyone.

And, as ever, we are giving one lucky person the chance to win everything featured on the page...worth over £800. All you have to do is tell us, on this thread, who you'd most like to find under your tree this Christmas (and why).

We will be drawing a winner at random at midday on Monday 16 December. Terms and conditions apply - more details on the page.

My parents who are too old to travel and see us anymore and I miss them on Christmas Day more than any other time on the years we don't get to spend it with them

Got to be Bradley Cooper and do you really have to ask why?

I would like to find Will Dean under my bed at Christmas although his Swedish wife might not be very pleased! Sadly his 2 books "Dark Pines" and "Red Snow" are not on the list but I was so impressed when I met him briefly at Waterstones and thought he was just a lovely guy.

I would love to find Freddie Starr under the Christmas tree. Fantastic comedian and singer

I'd like to find Charles Dickens under the tree. Besides reading some of his excellent literature. We can discuss Victorian food and drink and he can give us the recipe for one of his favourite drinks the Timber Doodle.

Sounds maudlin but it's not really. I would like to see all my late family, Mum, Dad, David, Joan, Uncle Dan, Cousin Godfrey and also my friend Penny who died before her time. I think we would have a wonderful time.

My two youngest grandchildren haven't seen them for five years, that would be just fantastic.

Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, would love to hear them sing and enjoy their banter together.

I would love to have a secret benefactor gift me just enough money to pay off my debts which have been a rock around my neck for just over 6 years. Having only 12 months left of payments, it really can't come quick enough, and then life, hopefully, will be pleasant again. My fault entirely that this happened, but with a supportive husband and the help of StepChange debt charity we are almost there. The sleepless nights before we got help were horrendous, I would urge anybody who gets into a mess like this to contact StepChange as soon as they can. Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and hoping that the best entrant wins.

I would love to have my remaining family (my siblings with their families as well as my late parents) from abroad under the tree and treasuring Christmas Day with all of us including my own family here singing carols whilst baking Christmas biscuits and creating wonderful memories! If only that was possible!

I’d like to find my dad who died when I was 4 and my baby brother. I can’t remember a Christmas spent with my dad and my brother never got to have a Christmas, so either one would be lovely. Just to talk to them and have a hug, even if just for one day, would be special beyond words.

Would love to see Colin Firth. So charismatic.

fossie2222 Sat 23-Nov-19 13:12:37

Any one of the pro-Strictly dancers would sweep me off my feet on Christmas Day (but maybe a special mention for Giovanni)!

michelleblane Sat 23-Nov-19 12:30:06

I'd like to find Robbie Williams under the tree (he can bring his wife and children too). He can entertain us and we will share our lunch with him.

I’d love to find Cary Grant under the tree. My sister & I are both addicts of all his films ??

Cisco241 Sat 23-Nov-19 11:41:01

My wife’s mum, my wife would be over the moon to have her here for Christmas. If possible my elder sister who died when I wasn’t there.

Graham Norton!....having just finished his two novels I am amazed to find someone I viewed as rather silly and not worth watching, as a brilliantly perspicacious, erudite and fascinating author. I would love to sit and chat to him about his books.

I would love to see my Mum under the Christmas tree. This will be our first Christmas without her and we know it's going to be a tough one.

My D.G.G.F. James Marlow
He was a very interesting man . Some of the things that he did blow my mind. He was killed at gallipoli fighting in the first world war and sadly is in an unmarked grave.
But over the years he keeps popping back up into our lives with extraordinary things that have happened and no one knew about. I want to chat with him and get some wisdom from him.
He was born in southern ireland and he fell for a girl from north ireland . They fell in love and eloped to england and had a family.
They settled in north east eng. Where he joined the local regiment. He was sent to Gallipoli and sadly killed.
The family were awarded a medal which a farmer dug up in one of his fields in ireland.
So it had been mislaid and came back to the family.
But only last week a excavation was done in our town and a huge metal plaque was found with my D.G.G.F. name on it because he had worked in the company and killed at war.
My point being is even though this gentleman was killed a century ago. He keeps popping back up out of the earth to remind his family that he is still around. We are so proud of the strong man that he was. These occurences of life have the makings of a book . I would love to gather all of the details and put pen to paper .

I’ would like to find my family from America under the Christmas tree this year.

cassandra264 Sat 23-Nov-19 09:52:47

I would like to find under my tree the younger editions of my other half and me, together with a magic spell to allow us to step into them. To be able to use that extra mental and physical health and energy to create an extra special Christmas for some of our family members for whom 2019 has been a very hard year....smile

My husband died just before Christmas 5 years ago, I would love to find him under the Christmas tree so he could meet his grandchildren

I'd love to see my youngest son and two granddaughters under my tree as it's been five years since we've seen each other. What a wonderful treat that would be.

I'd love to find a handyman under the tree this Christmas. And set him to work doing all those little jobs which have cropped up in the house recently. He would be well rewarded with a mince pie and cup of tea afterwards ;) x
