When my mum asked if i liked dinner, Mum was not a very good cook and i really didn't enjoy her food but rather than upset her with honesty I decided to offer to cook dinner a few times a week as a youngster to give her a break she was thrilled and so was everyone else in the family was too

My latest white lie was telling my 80+ year old neighbor that the police had been around to speak to him as he has been reported for ignoring isolation guidelines. In my defence he has recently had a major operation and assumed he could go out as and when he liked. He's such a lovely man and I don't want to lose a fab neighbor... btw he stays in now

My last job asked if I was mobile, but as I domn't drive I said I had a bike. I got the job and had to have a quick course of bike riding up and down the street and around the block. When I started my boss turns up to work in his cycling shorts and says we should go for a bike ride sometime. It came out in the wash that I could not cycle and was given a local patch. There is a catalogue of white lies if I were honest maybe two a week

When I tell the dog there is no meat or cheese in the fridge!!

Struggling to pick just one over here

On many occasions if it has saved hurting someones feelings.

Mainly to save someone else from shame.

A few years a friend, who regularly goes to Spain, bought me a very garish in-your-face dish. When she came round and looked for the bowl, I sheepishly told her that the dog had jumped up and caught the bowl which was too close to the edge of the table and it broke. Oh never mind, she said, I'll get you another one when I go again!

Fortunately for me she is a bit scatter-brained and she never did remember to buy me another one!

I must confess to feeling guilty, I mean I could have just said it was upstairs!!

I tend to use a little white lie to protect friends and family from others unkind comments.

Every time I get something out of the wardrobe and my DH asks is it new - I reply, no, I've had it ages!

I could give you a list as long as my arm of he ones that i remember ! I never tell a white lie to spiteful, i just dont like to hurt others feelings. Sometimes i do get caught out, many years ago i told my BF that her baby was so cute and she replied he was, if you liked babies that were a cross between a pixie and a gnome,she was right

The day before yesterdays.

Every time my mum gets it into her head to buy us presents. She has the most dreadful taste but I'll always tell her how delightful they are.

Today - by omission.

We have two young couples living next door and both have been hit by a reduction in income due to being furloughed. At Easter my husband decided to put some cash in cards for them and post them anonymously. Today we were in the garden and one of the neighbours came out and asked outright if it was us who gave the money - he said he wanted to say thank you. My husband is the very model of integrity and for him to lie is no easy matter, so he deflected the question and I said not a word, but three times he was asked directly and then he said 'no'.

We don't even know the couples very well, so we never imagined they'd question us. It was very embarrassing.

White lies are possibly told daily! As are lying by omission. All done to save hurting people's feelings. Have borrowed something from a neighbour - really didn't want to but he kept on... will prob be telling him a white lie when I return it (a television, sadly 'doesn't work with my Sky box')

I remember when my son was about 7 and wanted to stay up for Hogmany. So, I put the clock forward and found Big Ben with firework celebrations from around the world on YouTube. He was delighted as we toasted the New Year with his orange juice in a fancy glass and let off a few party poppers! In bed only a little later than usual. He happily recounted being allowed to stay up late for a long time after ?

Today when I told my granddaughter I liked her (hideous) dress

My mum loves shopping for bargains, especially for the family.
We are grateful but the clothes do not always fit or suit us.
She seems to suit every thing.
The last time I dared to say I didn't think it suited me.
She was very hurt and said,"yes it does"and "didn't we like her gifts". I then had to try it on again and I don't know whose white lie was bigger,her telling me"oh it does suit you" or me agreeing.

When I was round at my friend's mother for dinner all together... I said I loved the food to avoid offence, but I was forcing it down...horrible. Maybe next time I'll invent an allergy or food intolerance...

I had an elderly friend who was a very heavy smoker and she often gave me knitted goods, wool, and other items that she thought I would like but they were all so heavily smoke-laden that when I got them home I would spray them with air freshener to try and get rid of the smell but if not they went in the bin. She has passed away now but I still feel guilty.

I manage an Adult Education Centre for students with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities and when we took the necessary decision to close I knew the students would and could not understand why they were not “allowed” to attend so I told them we were closing to decorate ! The truth would cause untold upset. I now have to go in and decorate so I don’t look like I tell lies ?

In the lead up to Christmas I used to tell daughter that robins were watching her and report to Santa, so she had better not misbehave. I also told her that I regularly spoke to Santa on the phone and he would ask if she’d been good. I expect most parents do this?! Then in the lead up to Easter I’d be on the phone to the Easter bunny... ?
