When receiving a Christmas present which is totally useless from someone and saying "just what I wanted".

I used to try & convince my young children that all toys come with their own unique batteries and when those batteries die, their toy dies with them. Cruel, but kind - if you want a more peaceful house.... that's until the yelling begins.

I think my future little white lies are going to be “your hair is fine in the lockdown. I can’t tell a hairdresser didn’t cut it”

joeyhutch78 Wed 22-Apr-20 21:09:28

Most often to my little boy. Usually because I want an easier life. Example - of course I'm not eating anything!

gd Wed 22-Apr-20 20:41:11

Every Christmas to at least one relative - "Thank you for my present. It's lovely."

I used to tell my son when he was younger that the bits in the gravy were not onion but just slithers of veg as ever single ready meal comes with onion gravy and he hates onions! It was the only way I could get him to eat one and he only ever complained if he was told it was onion! Ignorance, in this case, truly was bliss.

I told my colleagues I was having some technical issues with my camera during a meeting on Microsoft Office - in fact, I hadn't actually got changed out of my pyjamas, lol

Bevsta111 Wed 22-Apr-20 19:27:27

I told a white lie today to my husband! I told him that the parcel of nail varnish that turned up today was a win in a competition. I didn't order it for myself lol

Generally, when someone asks me how I am. I always say, fine, even when I feel dreadful. No use upsetting anyone when they can't do anything about the situation.

When I threw a surprise party for my parents, I told them they were going out for dinner with friends. Half way to the restaurant, they had to come back as their friend's girlfriend "accidentally" left her handbag at our house. When they came into the house, they were greeted by all our friends and family, a lot of food, music and cake!

When someone has a surprise party coming up I am all for putting them off the scent

Re the ice cream van. We told our children when he rang his bell it mean’t that he had run out of icecream?

godiva1107 Wed 22-Apr-20 17:50:06

I don't tell white lies .... only whoppers. It's why my nose is larger than most.

obag Wed 22-Apr-20 16:59:25

Saying that I love the Birthday gift that my dear friend bought for me, as I didn't wont to hurt her feelings.

Ammari515253 Wed 22-Apr-20 16:37:13

My mother in law gave me some jewellery which I didn't like at all, but I told her it was nice?. Not nice I know but I didn't want to hurt her feelings.

My Aunt is 92 and has very strong views on Megan Markle and Prince Harry, I have different views but it is always easier to agree with her.

I'm such an angel - can think of a single one!

Tsuyoiko Wed 22-Apr-20 15:59:54

Most often it's to get out of a social occasion I don't fancy!

daisydaisy1965 Wed 22-Apr-20 15:16:48

I just tell myself every day that I am beautiful although I am very ugly. Helps me get through social situations.

Years ago I told my friend we were going to go for a meal on her birthday. Then arranged for another friend to get her to my place, where everyone jumped out and surprised her for a surprise birthday party! She enjoyed it a lot although she was probably a bit hungry!!

mrshumphreyjr1 Wed 22-Apr-20 13:26:14

telling a friend i loved the perfume she bought me, despite the fact she saw the full bottle on my dressing table a year later. compounded it by saying i was "saving it for best"!

grungeland Wed 22-Apr-20 12:40:24

only when absolutely required to save somebody's feelings

happysouls Wed 22-Apr-20 12:33:17

I tell white lies when saying thank you for most presents. I've tried to discourage people giving me presents as I end up feeling sad when things aren't wanted when a really nice gesture has been made to give the gift. Failing that I try to steer things towards what I'd like!
