I've told a fair few white lies... The one that springs to mind is the magical power of the Tooth Fairy!

I said I didn't finish the chocolate the other day ? I'm pretty sure they knew it was a white lie though.

i bought a valentines card once with my last £1, got it in a pound shop, told the person it was an expensive card, i wrote in it, didnt take much notice of the writing until they did, it had a kids easter puzzle printed on the inside and happy easter, they obviously had a printing error and the card ended up to be a cheap tacky one!

I lived a white lie for a couple of years when I lived with my husband to be before we were married. Our families really wouldn't have approved. So each family thought we were both flat sharing with other people. My lies almost came undone when my mother said something to my MIL, just before our wedding, about my address. I hope I covered it up by quickly changing the subject. MIL might have guessed but if she did she never said anything.

I remember a white lie when young. I loved my older sister high heels and used to clomp around in them in the bedroom one day I Was clomping around and the heel came off! I quickly stuck it on with my little glue pot she out the. On the next day and the heel came off she asked me had I been playing in them I said no!

I once received a scarf from a relative that I pretended that I really loved however it was definitely not my style and smelt like it had been in a drawer for about 50 years!!

I went to a job interview once and said I could work any switchboard system. I got the job and the first three days were a nightmare as I disconnected everyone, put the wrong calls through to people and left people hanging. Luckily it was in New York and the people liked my accent so much that they forgave me and taught me how to use it properly. They seemed to think that having an English person answering their phones made them look sophisticated!

I tell white lies to myself every day when I look in the mirror and promise not to eat naughty things today.

I told my friend I loved her new hairdo. I hated it but I wanted her to feel good.

My children had been pestering to go to Disneyland Florida for years when they were small so after saving up which took a long time we told them we were going to Spain for our annual trip. It was difficult keeping it a surprise and they only found out when we got to the airport and we gave them a Mickey Mouse cap each They were ecstatic and slightly annoyed at the same time!

I'm hopeless at even white lies - too often give the game away. However when I was young I wanted to go rollerskating but my parents wouldn't let me ( no idea why) So I saved my pocket money and went to "watch my friend" whilst having a lesson myself

I'd told a little white lie when I was asked if I'd been anywhere by my mum. My response was I'd been at home, pottering about when actually flown over to greece on my own for fertility treatment

My young granddaughters first attempts at baking I couldn't say anything but how wonderful it was!

Life is full of white lies, but they are still lies, however my boss calls them inconsistencies or misunderstandings!

GrandmaMia1 Sun 17-May-20 07:46:12

I have lied about Father Christmas, the tooth fairy. Also that school would be great fun!!!

Frankie51 Sun 17-May-20 06:31:54

I tell white lies to spare people's feelings. There are times when it is kinder of to be honest with someone. A friend whose lost her hair to cancer treatment, for example , it helps to boost her morale to tell her she looks amazing. Telling a small child their painting is brilliant. To me white lies are synonymous with tact and kindness.

Last Christmas my Mum asked me why I wasn't wearing the ring she had given me for my birthday, I lied and said it was at home when really it has gone missing (hopefully just misplaced.)
