I told my parents we where going out (when really we where staying in) as I didn't want them calling in on a friday evening as I wanted a bit of peace after work

Most of my white lies are pretending I like a gift.

angiem32 Fri 15-May-20 13:02:22

Only when trying to surprise members of my family so it doesn't spoil it when I've bought them a gift!

Christmas gifts are my No. 1 reason for little white lies

clara0015 Fri 15-May-20 10:02:13

Some little white lies to get the grandkids to eat their vegetables

I was very short of money, so wrapped up library books as a birthday 'gift' for my daughter's 3rd birthday. Over a bottle of wine a couple of years ago (she's now 37), I mentioned what I had done and she was stunned - she tells me she can remember endlessly searching for them ... hopefully she was just trying to guilt trip me!!

BellaTilley1988 Fri 15-May-20 08:58:41

Usually if my parents buy me clothes for my birthday ? I tell them I like it and send a picture wearing it but never wear it again because I dont want to hurt their feelings!

sylviagill1807 Fri 15-May-20 08:24:58

I'm not very good at telling lies... but in order to be kind I do tell my friends they look good in an outfit (when really they don't) - maybe i should be more 'kind' and tell them in a productive nice way !

I have never ever ever told a White lie.... oops sorry that was a lie .

lizzie111 Thu 14-May-20 22:58:42

Oh dear at least once a week

I once got bought some rather large knickers from my auntie at Christmas time which were horrible. Opening a present and faking you like something is so difficult but I was secretly very happy when she said she had left a gift receipt in if I wanted to take them back............. and I did!

Anytime I spend a weekend with the wrong company on holiday.

If the granchildren are playing on their devices for too long i tell them that the internet has stopped working when really I have just turned it off

When a next door neighbour's child hit our car with a cricket bat, I told my then husband that I had done it with a sweeping brush. It saved a lot of his agro and prevented a fallout with nice neighbours!

I told my daughter when she was 10 that her cat had been taken to a Circus for cat's to learn some tricks and when she didn't return I told her that she had become a star of the Circus (but sadly she had been run over) She found out the truth when she hit 13

Saying how much I loved a gift when I truly didn’t!

Northwestwoman1979 Thu 14-May-20 08:26:00

My Auntie loves to knit and has given my daughters some jumpers but they are colours they hate but I don’t want to hurt her feelings so say they love them!

maria411 Thu 14-May-20 08:14:54

probably too many to remember lol,

I did tell my family I was a little unwell so I didn't have to take part in the family quiz as wasn't really feeling it

My most common white lie over the years would be to say I was already engaged when turning down a social event. I think most white lies are to protect people’s feelings.

I’m trying to remember what I may have told my children in the past, I know my middle son genuinely believed I had eyes in the back
Of my head, but I don’t think that was intentional on my part.

That I am a great cake maker. I buy one in for special occasions!!

Ashamed but when my darling mother 95 (living in a protected environment with dementia) I answered her questions with what she wanted to hear. It was very difficult to lie to my mum but she would be distressed because her mother hadn’t visited her! I am glad she hasn’t seen this pandemic as she died a few years ago - I am so sad for those with family they can’t visit.
Keep safe folks xxxx

Always at Christmas, I get so wrapped up in it all, even I am convinced Santa comes from the North Pole x

cmht14 Wed 13-May-20 20:23:18

I tell little lies on the phone when family ask how i am coping, and I always say I am fine no matter what.

GeminiJen Wed 13-May-20 20:22:52

Not often, really only if telling the truth would cause hurt or offence. A few years ago now, I spent a lot of time helping out with a dear friend who had Alzheimer's. On bad days, when she thought I was someone else, I played along. No point causing unnecessary upset.

I told my son on the 1st of April 19 -- that it had snowed during the night and .....it was a white lie.. but he was fooled!
