I’m currently ‘revisiting’ Agatha Christie books. I love the period they are written in and the wonderful characters. It’s amazing that they are still so popular after all this time.
How ironic - some HMRC staff essentially committing fraud.

He watches.
A woman runs alone in the woods. She convinces herself she has no reason to be afraid, but she’s wrong. A predator is stalking the women of Grant County. He lingers in the shadows, until the time is just right to snatch his victim.
He waits.
A decade later, the case has been closed. The killer is behind bars. But then another young woman is brutally attacked and left for dead, and the MO is identical.
He takes.
Although the original trail has gone cold – memories have faded, witnesses have disappeared – agent Will Trent and forensic pathologist Sara Linton must re-open the cold case. But the clock is ticking, and the killer is determined to find his perfect silent wife….

I’m currently ‘revisiting’ Agatha Christie books. I love the period they are written in and the wonderful characters. It’s amazing that they are still so popular after all this time.
It's hard to choose a favourite but I'll plump for 'A Study in Scarlet' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle because it was one of the first crime books I read. I love following the twists and turns and trying to decipher the clues, find out who the villain is.
I love to be gripped by a good crime thriller, so many good ones, at the moment I am going through a Lee Child phase. All the Jack Reacher books are gripping to the ends.
The other passenger, just a basic whodunnit but with so many twist and turns its just brilliant.
What a lovely prize! I’ve read The Good Daughter and Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter and know I would enjoy The Silent Wife.
I’m very partial to the Roy Grace books by Peter James and have read the entire series (so far). It’s difficult to pick which one of them is my favourite as each one is my favourite when I’m reading it.
I enjoy the excitement that builds and builds as I turn the pages. I’m not very good at guessing ‘whodunit’ so it’s always a surprise to me.
i like kathy ellis with inspector petersen . its about two police inspectors in a sleepy little village near dartmouth .its a good family read and there nothing too gory. even humourous at times .but always got a twist to the end of the story ,not what you expect to happen..
I love the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child
I absolutely love the Inspector Montalbano books by Andrea Camilleri. There are about 27 of them so if you enjoy the first, there are plenty to try. The Sicilian setting is mouthwatering as are his lunches! The characters become friends of the reader and the stories are very inventive and clever. There is enough humour without losing the whole idea of a detective story. Salvo Montalbano is flawed but ultimately his good sense of justice prevails.
I like reading thrillers because they challenge you as well as provide an entertaining read.
Do love Karin Slaughter novels but also novels by Kathy Reichs.
Was given several of her books which aren’t my normal genre but are now “ can’t put them down” favourites
any by Dorothy koomson. I never work it out as the twist at the end is always so clever
Just finished No Time To Cry by James Oswald. This was selected for me by library staff as we have not been allowed in to choose our own books and this was a riveting read. I will be trying more of his books in the future
Crime/Thriller is my favourite genre, I have read so many good ones over the years that it is difficult to choose one. However, I must admit that Jeffery Deaver's Broken Window stands out with the killer's sininster use of data mining (time to rip up those loyalty cards!).
Now I am going to go through all the other replies to get some recommendations.
My love of thrillers and especially murder stories started when I was in my early teens with Agatha Christie - my Mum had a large collection of them and I read them on the bus on the way to school. I have especially enjoyed over time Kate Atkinsons' books and Susan Hill's but a couple of years ago I went to a talk given by a panel of crime writers, including Val McDermid and Elly Griffiths both of whom I'm ashamed to say I hadn't read! I had the chance to speak to Elly after the talk and she singed one of her books for me. A little later a friend gave me a Val McDermid book and now I'm hooked! So my favourite just has to be the most recent one that has had me awake until the early hours reading it, so this has to the 'Wire in the Blood' - like I said I came to her rather late!!
Just couldn't choose between my two favourites Behind Closed Doors by B A Paris and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, I just love it when everything on the surface seems normal then things begin to unravel and the tensions rise and you can't predict the outcome.
Couple Next Door !
A new favourite is Shari Lapena -her book The Coue Next Door is a real page turner , and a mention for a real classic - Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levington.
I love crime books! I recently read The Dark Side of the Mind: True Stories from My Life as a Forensic Psychologist which was really good!
HI this does change from year to year but the latest I loved was The family upstairs, Lisa Jewell as it is a psychological thriller with multiple parallel story lines. I was gripped from start to finish and I loved how it ended with a few last minute twists to fulfil me.
I love having to guess to the very end and I love thrillers that are not predictable.
Love a thriller. I have recently started reading novels by Jane Harper. - The Dry, The Lost Man, Force of Nature and The Survivors. They are set in Australia, have sympathetic characters, great storylines and brilliant surprise endings.
Val McDarmid, Still Life. She's a brilliant writer.
My choice is Dead Water by Ann Cleeves. I like to try and work out the outcome before I read it.
I also like Linda La Plants stories there so gripping you can't put the book down till you've got to the end, we all need a bit of escapism and these are it.
So many good authors around nowadays. I love a good crime thriller. I especially like some of the more traditional investigations where its all good old fashioned detective work. I'm Scottish and there are some fab authors whose stories are based round the areas in Scotland where I grew up. Just love reading about all my old familiar haunts. Just finished reading Val McDermids most recent, set in Fife.
I too enjoy a "series" like Sue Grafton - and also enjoy the Rebus series - but I like feeling I am in Edinburgh.
One of my favourites is The Stranger Beside Me about the serial killer Ted Bundy.I especially like true story thrillers. Some of them you couldnt make up.
