My favourite crime book is anything by Edgar Wallace who was a master of writing very good crime thrillers. He wrote The Forger, The Door With Seven Locks, to name but a few and the twists and turns in them are amazing! Its a good way to unwind and ease your mind, getting lost in the escapism of a good thriller!

My favourite crime/thriller book are those written by Ruth Rendell, such as A Judgement in Stone. I’m interested in the social history and the the psychological background of criminals and their victims.

kyalami Sat 17-Apr-21 16:15:44

My crime authors of choice are Peter James & Linwood Barclay whose books are always gripping. I'd love to add Karin Slaughter to my list!

For me it would have to be the John Connolly Charlie Parker series of books. He writes beautifully and has created a great blend of supernatural mystery. Out of all of his books "Dark Hollow" would be my favourite.
Though I would definetely recommend starting from the beginning!

A few years ago I discovered Lee Childs and read all the Reacher novels (in order). I've since found many other great writers of crime/thrillers and panic about finding another author when coming to the last book! At the moment I am loving L J Ross and her DCI Ryan series. These books particularly appeal to me as they are set in my home county of Northumberland!

I have to say that the nearest I’ve got to reading thrillers is Shawshanks Redemption ..... but I want to get into the thriller genre because I am now feeling bored by family sagas that I usually choose. I’m sure this will exclude me from winning this particular competition but it would be nice to get a runner up copy of The Silent Wife to set me back on the road of reading page turning books.

I love that you never know what is going to happen next with a gripping page turner, my favourite is Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell, this is the read that really inspired my love of crime thrillers

Kittyme1 Sat 17-Apr-21 15:18:15

I love Linda Le Plante's crime books, I became hooked after watching Prime Suspect on TV, I think that's why I am now hooked on Line of Duty.

KJB1978 Sat 17-Apr-21 15:02:06

The Simon serrallier series of books bu Susan hill are my favourite and have been read and reread. Hard choice though as it's my go to genre

I'm reading Karin Slaughter's Blindsighted at the moment, it's excellent, a bit gory but I think if my stomach churns or I flinch at a description then the story telling is good and the characters are relatable.
Crime thriller books are my favourite genre of reading and there are so many good books it's hard to pick a favourite, my favourite authors are Shari Lapena, Clare Mackintosh, Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay.
I like that I can empty my mind of everything except the book, when I'm reading.

Jilly1967 Sat 17-Apr-21 14:01:01

I love Mo Hayder books, the unexpectedness of things that can happen, with a hint of feeling a little uncomfortable.

rachelmccraith Sat 17-Apr-21 13:55:17

I loved Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. I love thrillers because you often can't guess what the twists are going to be, so it keeps you guessing throughout

beckyinman Sat 17-Apr-21 13:49:22

I loved the Thursday Murder Club.
My passion for crime thrillers comes from being tied in knots with clues before finally getting the satisying reveal

mrsjonesy Sat 17-Apr-21 12:56:00

I've just finished The Black Dahlia by James Elroy which left me shaken and stirred by the brutality and brilliance of the plot which was based on a true story. I'll be needing something a bit gentler to soothe my shaken nerves, so will be heading to the library soon, in search of a Linwood Barclay novel I haven't read.

wifey2003 Sat 17-Apr-21 12:45:39

The Neighbour - Fiona Cummins, 10 out of 10 for twists & turns and quivering page turning at its best !!

gillyknits Sat 17-Apr-21 12:23:34

I’m reading the Harry Bosch books by Michael Connolly, they are very gripping. (Just discovered his tv series on Amazon Prime which is also good)

kristianjsnooks Sat 17-Apr-21 12:04:25

TH1RT3EN (Thirteen) by Steven Cavanagh - LOve a good thriller with an unexpected twist!

Isis1981uk Sat 17-Apr-21 11:57:56

I love the Child 44 series by Tom Rob Smith - I love thrillers interwoven with real historical settings, and Stalinist Russia is ideal for a tense atmosphere and not knowing which characters you can trust!

Corkie91 Sat 17-Apr-21 11:53:45

Love reading thrillers especially ones with a twist. Love books by Steven Cavanagh they always have plenty of twists,
Thirteen is grippy and tense. Its about a trial with a ruthless prosecutor, a brilliant defence lawyer . Plenty of secrets and to top it all there is a murderer on the jury

janipans Sat 17-Apr-21 11:48:22

Hard to choose a favourite but My Lies, Your Lies by Susan Lewis which I read recently was gripping and kept me turning the pages long after bedtime!

jeapurs54 Sat 17-Apr-21 10:58:56

I love Linda Green Novels - The Last thing she told me was an excellent book. C.L. Taylor is also one of my favourite Authors she has written The Fear, Sleep, The Treatment, Escape, and After I've Gone, And Then it Happened all of which I found really great reads. Then she was gone by Lisa Jewell left me thinking about it for a long time afterwards, it had a real twist and kept me totally absorbed. Thrillers are my favourite books but turn to Phaedra Patrick for more light hearted reading (not slushy) just try The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper it's an amazing story so interesting and will keep you wondering......

smithy77 Sat 17-Apr-21 10:57:50

Love anything my Anne cleeve. Her books are fantastic

Maggiemaybe Sat 17-Apr-21 10:46:42

So much choice, and I’ve so many “favourites”.

I can still remember the shock I felt at the ending of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, but I wouldn’t re-read it in case it’s aged badly (or I have, and become more critical!). I love Val McDermid, Mark Billingham, Kate Atkinson. Old favourites are P D James, Ruth Rendell, and the early Patricia Cromwell, though imho her Scarpetta series went from the sublime to the really ridiculous, and I gave up on it eventually. A recent discovery is A A Dhand, whose books are set in Bradford, a city I know well. His plots are so fast-paced, and he incorporates interesting storylines about living in a multi cultural society.

CHARLEY1 Sat 17-Apr-21 10:41:11

Although they are many years old I have only just got around to reading the First of the Val McDermid Wire in the Blood series which I really enjoyed. I love a thriller with a twist and this certainly had a twist - I'm having a rest now with The Thursday Murder Club which is much more gentle!

Sheils999 Sat 17-Apr-21 10:34:54

And then there were none by Agatha Christie remains my favourite thriller for plotting.

I like thrillers as I feel I can try & figure out villain like the detective.
