Nectar prices at Sainsburys

According to an email I received yesterday from Nectar which ended up in my scrutinising the Nectar app a bit more closely it seems that now you can only get personalised Nectar prices by a) shopping online or b) using the ‘smart shop’ scanners. I do not wish to do my shopping by either method. I visit the store in person and pay at a self-serve till or a checkout. Does anyone have any idea when this change came into being?

Several years ago I think, they have been gradually introducing SmartShop store by store. You still get the Nectar Price offers if you shop at the normal tills, but you only get the personalised Nectar offers when you use the scanner on the app on your phone as you go round to scan all your shopping, then use the SmartShop till. To be honest, I don’t bother with SmartScan because I’m terrible at remembering to scan as I go round, but I always look out for the Nectar Point offers, which are all marked on the shelves.

They have just introduced a feature on the new app whereby you can lock your points. I've had mine stolen, they were reinstated. I think that had become a common problem and maybe this is a reason for the update. I prefer using the scanners.

I prefer the self scanners. Dexterity issues make checkouts and self service a nightmare for me. I can pack as I go and have no-one breathing down my neck, because I am so slow.
