How do you get rid of smell of fish?

Not related to fish pie! Aiming to eat more fish, yesterday I tried a recipe for fried sea bass - or panfried if you're a bit cheffy - it was finished with a mix of chillis, garlic, ginger and spring onions. Really tasty! But despite using the extractor fan, lots of air fresheners today and opening all the windows, the house still smells of fish. I want to try doing more things with fish, but this has really put me off. Any ideas anyone?

Microwave a lemon?

Try lighting Chef's candle & letting it burn for couple of hours. Available from Iceland. I always keep supply in kitchen drawer as I hate the smell of fish pervading the house. My hubby loves Fish Pie, but, I do not like the after smell of fish. I have tried the Lemon in microwave too.

Yes lemon in the microwave if you could the fish in the microwave or just cook a cut lemon in water on the hob and let it simmer away - much better than air freshners. I put the overhead fan on full when cooking fish anyway

I absolutely hate the smell of fish. Don't mind meat cooking so much, though during barbeque season it gets a bit much! (if you didn't know, I'm vegetarian and Theseus isn't)

But the only fish cooked here is baked in the oven with a chef's candle going. Ugh!

I have tried chef's candles from Lakeland and not found them to be very effective with fish, which I eat at every opportunity, but DH gets a really long face when he knows I'm going to cook it. He's offered to build me a fish kitchen at the bottom of the garden (like he ever gets round to building anything!). I just shut all the doors out of the kitchen, open the windows and hope for the best.

Thanks for suggestions. I was also told about popping some cloves in a pan of simmering water. Next time the BBQ comes out, I'm going to try it again as there is a small gas ring on the side of the BBQ. Could be waiting for a long time for that.

Simmer aromatic herbs (preferably fresh ones) - bay, oregano, lemon thyme, parsley etc for some time before poaching the fish in the resulting bouillon. The scent of the herbs should overwhelm the smell of the fish. I like to wrap salmon in sorrel leaves before baking in foil.

Always buy the freshest fish you can source. The older the smellier. The fresher the more fragrant. And discard all fish wrapping paper asap.

I use an incense burner in the kitchen and dining room cooking and serving fish. It works really well.

You can get the smell off your hands by using almond essence.

I've bought fish and had it sealed in a bag which you place in the oven. This is great because you have your choice of fish - although tuna is too chunky for this method - and a savoury butter and/or lemon/lime without the pong. Dead easy.
