It was back to the steak for us yesterday so that visiting DD could have some. She liked it too. It is delicious, even when I overdo the cream a bit . Roast chicken tonight. Yum.

Think I'll leave it there.

There are a lot of non-expert myths around concerning nutrition.

Koalas eat nothing but eucalyptus leaves and have to spend almost their entire day either eating or sitting about digesting their food. The rest of their time is spent growling at each other - they have very bad tempers because of their chronic indigestion.

No, ariadne. Meat is digested quickly and doesn't putrify in the gut at all. The pepsin in the stomach starts the process and trypsin in the small intestine continues it. Proteins take longer to be broken down into their constituent amino acids than simple carbohydrates take to break down into sugars, but that's why a protein meal will 'last' you longer than a high carbohydrate one.

Herbivores, on the other hand, have things like fermenting chambers (extra stomachs) to deal with the very difficult to digest cellulose of their diets.

We never had steak at home when I was growing up (too expensive I suppose) so I first tasted it with a rich boyfriend (a bit of a wide boy actually) who used to take me out to dinner in his E-type and we'd have steak with all the trimmings and a bottle of Mateus Rose or Blue Nun!

When I got married (NOT to dreadful wide boy) we ate really well but I never bought steak (again, too expensive). But now, in our dotage, I regularly buy fillet steaks from M&S and they never, ever disappoint. Yummy with cream, brandy and pink peppercorns stirred into the steak juices just before serving.

But meat stays in the gut, putrefying, for a long time - doesn't it?

kitty Chorizo mash sounds delish I think I will have a go at that,and bags I do like a good steak I buy mine from Costco butcher Aberdeen Angus and have always been more than happy with it.

nonuand all the "research" done recently about red meat was about processed red meat as in burgers etc. If you looked hard, in the papers that published the story, it was written in small letters somewhere "this research doesn't include non processed meat, such as steaks and meat joints". Remember when they told us to switch to "vegetable oil spread" instead of butter? In now transpires that the transfats used in the production of the so called healthier spreads are much worse for us than the natural fat found in butter. Beware of what you "read somewhere". A bit of what you fancy, (unless proper medical opinion forbids it) can't harm you.

Meat, including steak, is easier to digest than cabbage, or any other vegetable matter. That's why carnivores have shorter digestive tracts than herbivores.

No steak for DH and me , we read somewhere it doesn"t help BP . Something to do with it it being a bit hard to digest and "sitting" in the stomach . Missed though , but get used to everything in time

Hi kittylester job hunting not brilliant, to be honest!

I have lost count of what I have applied for, only had 1 interview so far and didn't get the job.

I had appointments with 3 agencies on Tuesday, all 3 said that they didn't think I would be on the market very long, but they also all said they had nothing suitable at present!

However 1 in particular seems to be very proactive, she gave me a call today to say that she had been in touch with some of her clients that didn't even have current vacancies, as she feels that when it comes to sales positions, some firms will create a vacancy for the right person. She was so complimentary about me, both on a personal and professional level, I was quite "made up"!

Bags that sounds lovely especially the caramelised onions. We went out with one of my husband's (very) old university friends for lunch. We had chicken satay skewers followed by chorizo hash with a poached egg on top. It was delicious. Downside was the old friend's wife who had verbal diarrohea (sp) so I was exhausted by the time we got home. Supper was a lovely glass of wine and Philadelphia cheese on black pepper biscuits as I was too tired to think of anything else.

Sounds good, but as I had an appointment with my GP today re. the results of my blood test, it's off limits for me!
