Young(ish) mum working from a resource of a freezer
Tonight (monday night) taken out mince beef (fairly large portion but frozen) - babies just in bed, husband snoring - just about to taken washing in from line (I am so grateful for this good weather everything dries so quick and no need to use tumbledryer)
Anyway I am a bluffer at cooker (means I am rubbish!)
Please help - I only ever saw my mother come home from work 6pm-ish and fry up onions and mince beef before serving with potatoes and veg - it is now 11pm and i have frozen beef
Aside from me not living up - can I put frozen beef in slow cooker with veg and stock and let it defrost overnight (there will be water/liquid) and then turn it on tomorrow or is failing to "brown" the mince and to use onions fatal.
I will get up extra early tomorrow to brown the mince tomorrow (although I dont have any onions but I know about sealing in the flavour)
Any thoughts much much appreciated i have no one else to ask (including my own mum) thanks

I would not put frozen beef in slow cooker. let it defrost in the fridge overnight & fry it in a.m. If you have some nutmeg add a teaspoon as you brown the meat..will add flavour to make up for lack of onion! Got any wine /dark beer? If so add a glass (or two) to the slow cooker. Good luck!

A good teaspoonful of Worcestershire sauce is also good if you don't have any beer - or mushroom ketchup. Depends what you have to hand!

My mother in law used to age half a packet of sage and onion stuffing to mince - it tasted surprisingly good. Redcurrant jelly and Worcestershire sauce are my standbys for flavour. Sure it will be lovely.

Another timehave a go at adding a jar of tomato based pasta sauce for an easy meal. defrosting overnight is a good idea.

Whitworths make packets of dried onions to store in your cupboard so you don't have to chop just pop in and you don't need to be without again.Enjoy your dinner tonightxx

This is a really way of spicing up some mince if you have no time and is really cheap and cheerful, put mince defrosted mince into bowl add some sage and onion mix crumble in oxo and good pinch black pepper/salt chop up onion and bind together with an egg good handful of any flour and roll into sausage shape cut into portions and make into burger shape's cook slowly for 8mins each side serve with new pots or mash and any fresh veg,you can spice it up a bit with pepper sauce, takes 1/2hr tops.Any left over can be frozen I always make about 10/12 at a time so always have something in that I know the family like.
