Thanks you, some great ideas. French supermarkets are full of exotic vegetables and fruits. I love avocado and shrimps, and three bean salad. Usually, the only hot thing I add are bacon pieces, but I am willing to have a go at anything. I buy a baguette and cut it into pieces about 3" long and freeze them. I take one out of the freezer every morning to have with my lunch.
My daughter in New Zealand makes the best salads I have ever tasted - their bbqs are great,
Today, my cooked meat was sliced duck's breast, cooked very quickly for two minutes each side so it was still very pink.
I am not bothered about calories - I am back to walking for several hours a day up very steep mountain paths. My weight is now just under 10 stone,or 63 Kgs. - down from nearly 12 stone 18 months ago. In fact, I don't really want to lose any more as it has mainly gone from my upper body, which was always much slimmer than my hips and thighs. My cheeks are a bit hollow and I have lost most of my bosom! However, I am not bothered about my appearance and the weight loss has certainly helped my knees. I can walk twice as far now without getting out of breath and can climb the steepest paths. My bp is down to 116/88 when I get back from a tough walk. Granjura nags me because she thinks I am not getting enough carbs! I cut a baguette into pieces about 3" long and freeze them and every morning I take one out to unfreeze ready for my lunch.

Couldn't face salad today - pasta with sautéed tomatoes and mushrooms.

I have a big bowl of salad every day for lunch. Some other additions....

Raw shelled peas
Bean sprouts
Crab sticks
Sprinkles of dried chilli flakes
Jalapenos
Raw mushrooms

If you're counting calories a tiny dob of mayo or salad cream with a tbsp of balsamic vinegar is good.

grated carrot, mayonnaise (or a little orange juice/chopped orange, if you prefer), pumpkin seeds, sultanas. Good with a baked potato and cheese.

If it wasn't so d**n cold and wet I might be able to work up some enthusiasm for salads - but a the mo I crave comfort food, soups, stews and hot chocloate!

I do eat the same food every day; depending on my mood I'll eat pretty much the same stuff for days and then switch to something else. However, I would like to be rich and go to restaurants and taste lots of different foods [sushi for example].I hate cooking. Can quite happily have porridge as a main meal smile.

Finely shredded fennel with a dressing is nice and I like to add hot fine beans, or asparagus in season. I like them hot on a bed of spinach leaves.

Can you get nice beetroot Greatnan?

I'm not very interested in food. I could eat the same salad every day and it wouldn't bother me. We're all different!

I sometimes add crispy bacon and some sliced boiled egg with balsamic dressing. If we are having it in the evening I add diced and fried black pudding and some new potatoes. It's called full English salad!!

Avocado and prawns.

I also buy a big tub of Munchy Seeds chilli mix (when I can find them) and a spoonful sprinkled over any salad is delicious and not too hot, just tasty.

I often use mixed beans with a little salad dressing especially if I am not having meat.

What about tinned or bottled artichokes Greatnan? Delicious in a warm salad with a little vinaigrette, just cut in half and toss them around in a frying pan for 30 seconds with a little olive oil then when they're hot, add them to the salad leaves. Apples, walnuts, anchovies, chargrilled peppers and courgettes?

I have one salad meal every day and I am looking for ways to make it more interesting. I start with the basics - lettuce or other greeen leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, celery, pepper. Then I add the protein - cooked meat, shrimps, egg or cheese. For interest, I have been adding olives, coleslaw, celeri, sultanas, sweet corn.....and anything else that I have in stock! What else could I add to give me some variety?
