Hello Woody, that sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon. I used to thoroughly enjoy designing and making birthday cakes for my own children. Earlier this year I was able to do the same for my DGD. I'm sure your grandson will love it smile

After having 3 daughters and 2 grand daughters I was finally presented with a grand SON nearly a year ago, For his first birthday cake my daughter has asked if I would make a "jungle cake" After all those years of pretty pink themed cakes this will be a challenge - but feel very proud that I have just spent the afternoon making fondant animals to go round it - lap top -you tube - various colours of fondant icing - and I have to say a few strange words coming out of my mouth! - but mission successfully completed, as long as when I go to them tomorrow they havent all fallen apart.
