My DD and DGC are coming to stay in December for two weeks and do not eat dairy but I'm struggling to find soya ice-cream locally so thought I'd look into making it myself. Any suggestions on a good ice-cream maker would be very welcome!

moomin , is it through choice or allergies etc?

Thro' choice phoenix - she has MS and is on a specific diet - i.e. dairy/meat free with various exclusions and additions (which, thankfully, seems to be helping her no end!)

I've a gelateria made by gaggia. I've had it years. It's excellent but was expensive. Before that I had the type where you had to freeze the bowl before and they were a pain.

I have a Philips HR2304/1. It was not too expensive and works well. There might be newer models now. My favourite is green ginger wine ice cream with pieces of chopped crystallised ginger. Plain Strawberry ice cream just strawberries in light sugar syrup with the cream (or soya) nothing else. there are lots of internet recipes.

My favourite is -- (wait for it) -- vanilla. But made with proper vanilla pod...
