Yummy - found a tin of corned beef in my little local supermarket - I brought Bisto granules back from England. Corned beef hash with brown sauce tonight.

I hate that sort of slimy corned beef, but really like salt beef – i.e. the original corned beef.

I cut off the surplus yellow fat.

The low fat corned beef is great. Hardly any fat to remove. I'm sure it's full of nitrates and nitrites, but is a treat every now and again. Years ago, I made corned beef with some brisket and it was delicious, but it took ages and was eaten in 5 minutes.

Yum, corned beef hash, one of my favourites, but DH doesn't like it much unfortunately.

I've just found a nigella one you can do in the slow cooker. Sounds good for me when I go to work.

I think that's the same as 'stovies'? I make corned beef 'stovies' which involves cooking onions, potatoes, and corned beef together in a lidded pan with a very tiny amount of water. Is this the same as corned beef hash?

Yes , that is more or less what I do, but sometimes I make quite a bit of Bisto gravy to make a stew, and then do mashed potatoes with it. I put in all kinds of frozen vegetables, and today it will be onions, leek, carrots and peas.
Now I am hungry - no slow cooker today as I can't wait! I will be having a glass of red wine with it - hmm - wonder how it would taste if I put some of it in the stew?

We love corn beef hash pie, I cook it as you both do then put it in a shallow dish and cover with short crust pastry, serve with mash, green veg and gravy, its one of OH's favourites...

Slice the corned beef and layer into oven proof dish. Cook onions, cabbage and potatoes. Mash these together with butter, black pepper and milk. Spread over corned beef. Top with a layer of grated cheese and cook in over until golden. Serve with boiled beetroot or red cabbage.
Simples!

Tanith - too many carbs for me!

I'm going to have a go at those variations! My daughter and her boyfriend are returning from working in France next week. They've been working as couriers for 8 months and that's their season finished. DGD's boyfriend comes from Newcastle and his favourite food is corned beef pie, so I shall be stocking up with a few tins!
