It seems to me that the reason we are all fairly relaxed about keeping food is that we are old enough to have encountered food that had gone off and we know what it looks like and smells like. I doubt if many of today's young wives have ever come across a rotten egg or a piece of gone off meat and they just rely on what the producers tell them. Oh those lovely, long hot summers, straining the little white lumps out of the milk in my tea - and it still tasted horrid!
