What can I do? Just been having a big clear out and thrown nearly all my jars of sauces, mustards, pickles, etc out. Most three-quarters full. They all read 'once opened use within x number of days'. There's only two of us, how can I use 210g of horseradish sauce in 28 days or 250g of dijon mustard in 6 weeks?
Why can't I buy them in mini pots? Or can I? I've come on GN 'cause if anyone knows GNetters will smile

It seems to me that the reason we are all fairly relaxed about keeping food is that we are old enough to have encountered food that had gone off and we know what it looks like and smells like. I doubt if many of today's young wives have ever come across a rotten egg or a piece of gone off meat and they just rely on what the producers tell them. Oh those lovely, long hot summers, straining the little white lumps out of the milk in my tea - and it still tasted horrid! grin

Hope you cooked it first, Ella...hmm

Ella46 Sat 12-Jan-13 21:59:00

Earlier, I found a Christmas pudding in the cupboard which was dated 'best before March 2010' hmm

In the interests of science and support for the 'stop wasting food lobby' I've had some.......................it was delicious wink

Nanado Sat 12-Jan-13 16:54:11

I deny everything.

Movedalot Sat 12-Jan-13 16:52:58

Are smoothies always non-alcoholic? Maybe not nanado grin

jeni Sat 12-Jan-13 16:31:56

jodi not for the last few days. Actually it appears she wants to be called a rose?confused

Nanado Sat 12-Jan-13 16:31:43

I can hear you all! Yes, I was on smoothies all night, must have been all the sugar. It was the apple and kiwi one; the one the GKs call 'frog juice'. Think I'd better stick to wine tonight.
Chucks safely in, sun over horizon.

Ana Sat 12-Jan-13 15:55:49

Ah! So that's what Nanado was on! grin

Jodi Sat 12-Jan-13 15:53:24

annodomini Sat 12-Jan-13 12:41:16

I prefer the jam with less sugar. Waitrose jam is, for me, too sweet, whereas Aldi jam is just about right.
