Elk lasagne for dinner anyone?

When my husband was driving in Sweden he ate a lot of elk and always tells me it's a really nice meat.

It's all meat, anyway, so what's the problem - unless, of course, it is contaminated by drugs fed to the animals. NellieM is spot on!

We always read the label, but if it is something like sausage or burger we have a catch phrase: "it could be horse of course."

I agree! if your going to eat meat dont be speciesist? Just lable the packet properly.

Bags I have been wondering why they haven't done that with all this mislabelled food. What have they done with it? Have they just thrown it all away?

Elk meat is no doubt a traditional food in parts of Scandinavia (and the food in question was for sale by Ikea) just as caribou is what kept Eskimos going in Alaska, and probably still does in some cases.

I just can't help laughing at food being withdrawn, and possibly wasted, because it has the wrong label. Mind you, the laughing is close to crying.

Italians will shoot just about anything that runs or flies but I don't think elk is widespread in the country – so why? Nevertheless, I'm sure it makes a perfectly edible meal – although a "ready" meal is not necessarily edible. Why not label it lasagne al forno and just list the ingredients on the back? Well, probably because the packaging costs more than the product itself.

Think I'm turning vegetarian.
After I've eaten the lamb shoulder I've got for tomorrow!
