We often have threads about our favourite foods, so what are your dislikes?
Mine include very hot spicy food, sourdough bread, and peppers. Slightly different is the cherry flavouring in some foods and drinks which reminds me of the penicillin emulsion I used to take when I had pneumonia/measles as a child.

I'm with Maniac, but as I don't eat eat or fish, my horrors are: stuffed peppers (except in Italy where they're not stuffed with yesterday's rice!); marrow; overlooked broccoli; Chinese mushrooms; aubergines badly cooked (nothing slimier!)

Milk, my primary education was made hell by the fear of school milk and being made to drink it, Not keen on eggs, on their own and runny yolks nauseate me.

Beetroot is increasingly being used in cakes they way carrots crept into recipes a few years ago and similarly it seems to produce a quite moist cake. I like beetroot but it does stain everything it comes into contact with.

Maniac Mon 15-Apr-13 18:55:06

Anything with a rubbery,slithery,gloopy texture e.g.tripe,oysters

BAnanas Mon 15-Apr-13 18:55:03

I can be squeamish about eggs, I have a friend who is the same about bananas, but I love them, hence the name. I think they are the most perfect fast food, but they do have an optimum time when best eaten before they become less desirable, but at that stage they can be shoved in a cake.

Not doing it for me either Grannyeggs. I hate beetroot, tongue and tripe!

Grannyeggs Mon 15-Apr-13 17:33:16

Thanks johanna I will try it.[ hmm]

johanna Mon 15-Apr-13 17:13:20

Hello Grannyeggs
I also hate beetroot with an OH who loves it.
However here follows a recipe for beetroot salad which even I can eat.

Beetroot , ready cooked packet from supermarket
Cheese
Mayo
Walnuts
Garlic.

Grate beetroot, grate cheese, chop walnuts small.
Mix mayo with crushed garlic.
Pile in bowl and mix all together.
If garlic not wanted, chop some spring onions or snip some chives.

Not bad at all.
All ingredients according to taste.

had steak tartar once didn't realise it was raw minced beef with a raw egg in the middle....naive......horrible.

annodomini Mon 15-Apr-13 16:45:39

Dislike the texture of celery and loathe beetroot; anything with desiccated coconut in it; squid seems to me to have the texture of rubber bands and I cannot persuade myself to like shellfish.

bookdreamer Mon 15-Apr-13 16:24:21

Sunseeker I call green peppers work of the devil too! About the only thing I won't eat.

TracySmith Mon 15-Apr-13 16:10:31

Really spicy food, liver or squid.

I'm not a huge fan of pork either if it's not cooked properly (can very eaily get too dry) smile

Enviousamerican Mon 15-Apr-13 15:33:31

The only foods mentioned I WOULD eat are the peppers, not hot, onions and sourdough bread, sweet not sour pickles, tomatoes. Don't feed me sauerkraut or other pickled veggies.Sheep or liver. My childhood medicine was flavored with a strong vanilla flavoring.yukky smell. No fish with eyes showing please. No animal innards!

janeainsworth Mon 15-Apr-13 15:29:42

matson Mon 15-Apr-13 15:27:48

Grannyeggs Mon 15-Apr-13 14:56:24

absent I so agree with your cousin about beetroot.

absent Mon 15-Apr-13 14:50:03

Zengran I was never a great fan of broad beans, although I could eat them, until a friend and keen gardener brought me a bag of them freshly picked about 30 minutes earlier. Boy was there a difference between those and the ones you get in supermarkets. I think a lot of the commercially available broad beans are too mature and they certainly won't be nice unless you individually pop them out of their skins.

sunseeker Mon 15-Apr-13 14:46:08

offal, belly of pork, red and green peppers (work of the devil!), beetroot, pickles. Add to that the fact that I am also allergic to tomatoes, fish and raw onions.

Zengran Mon 15-Apr-13 14:39:43

Offal for me, too, and, for no fathomable reason, broad beans.

My OH loves that malt extract with cod liver oil that comes in a big jar. He eats it from the jar with a spoon! I cannot bear it, even the smell makes me nauseous!

glassortwo Mon 15-Apr-13 14:29:27

Tripe, black pudding.

noodles Mon 15-Apr-13 14:05:31

To my taste buds rocket has a disgusting almost meaty taste and I simply can't eat it.

j08 Mon 15-Apr-13 14:04:03

Prawns in fish pie.

I can eat them in a supermarket sandwich, with plenty of mayo. But not warm and squidgy in a pie. Spoils the whole thing for me.

cathy Mon 15-Apr-13 13:46:13

Black pudding YUK!!

I have also gone off sausages since finding out that they are full of pigs ears and noses and so I now only buy the most expensive sausages.
