The farmer has cut the field today so you should be able to parachute in if you are quick.....

Most of the above plus homemade burgers (pork) with lardons and diced mozzarella mixed in.

Love the banana one - I knew there was a good idea involving bananas!

Nectarines/peaches sprinkled with sugar (brown or white vanilla) and put on the BBQ as you eat your meal. Serve with clotted cream or good icecream. The fruit skewers with marshmallows in amongst the fruit.

Our local Budgen's franchise sells frozen bananas covered in chocolate and nuts. sunshine

Sook grab your sunglasses! It's Mamie's place for the scrummiest-sounding BBQ! grin

Also, fresh sardines, spicy mackerel, pork spare ribs in chinese spices, whole, butterflied leg of lamb marinated for 24 hours in oil, lemon juice and herbs, whole sea bass stuffed with herbs, rib of beef in a paste of oil, onion, thyme, rosemary, bay and flavoured with juniper berries (which are put in the coals) etc etc (We do a lot of barbecues).

I didn't say that I provide all those goodies, Sook grin. My son is the BBQ king now (it used to be sausages, burgers and steak till everyone howled at the thought of one more burnt offering). I come up with ideas and he sets to! He's bought himself a new BBQ that looks like something from outer space. He's just texted me to say he's doing one tomorrow. Perfect weather for it! smile

when I'm going to gate crash your next BBQ grin

Pieces of duck breast with dried figs marinated in armagnac, on skewers. Marinated chops, veal, lamb or pork (herbs to suit). Pork chops in a hot, spicy, dry rub. Monkfish bits, wrapped in sage leaves and bacon with aioli (sp?).
Tonight we are having sausages though, venison and merguez.

when if you wrap the potatoes really well in thick foil, you can chuck them in the coals and fish them out an hour later, cooked to perfection with a crisp skin.

I love that banana tip. Sounds divine.

I hate hosting BBQs! We are having a load of pals over for lunch on Sunday but it won't be a BBQ. DH feels it is his responsibility to do the BBQ cooking and he is useless at it! Everything is either undercooked or burnt. i am seriously thinking of going gas BBQ but to me..used to real 'made out of an old tin can' charcoal BBQ.. it feels like a sell out!

We don't do barbeques (Theseus tried and is a dead loss). And I am vegetarian so mostly it doesn't bother me. But DD is vegetarian too, and does amazing stuff when DSiL barbeques e.g.

Stuffed (with mozarella) spicy bean burgers
Halloumi cheese skewered with peppers, onions etc and marinated overnight in something delicious

I hate the standard shop bought veggie stuff!

Also, bananas kept in their skins, but sliced partway through at intervals, slip a chocolate button into the slits, wrap with foil and BBQ.

Pineapple slices caramelised and then drizzled with honey.

Skewers with strawberries, pineapple and melon chunks, nectarine, whatever you fancy, really! Delicious, whether BBQ'd or not.

I would have if you hadn't mentioned them glam mañana...smile

mollie Fri 05-Jul-13 15:49:05

Thank you When...we've got friends coming and I want to do something a bit more than burgers and sausages...

We'd also go for the Spatchcocked chicken rubbed down with alliolli and wrapped with red peppers, lots of lamb breast cut into ribs and left until well done and crispy with lots of mint sauce, baby new potatoes halved and wrapped to keep warm with a good dollop of reggae-reggae sauce.
p.s. don't forget the egg/cress butties.

whenim64 Fri 05-Jul-13 14:18:54

Fresh mackerel fillets, marinated in lime and chilli, wrapped in foil and cooked for about 15 minutes on the edge of the BBQ.

Chunks of red onion and peppers, cherry tomatoes, courgettes, cubes of haloumi, skewered onto rosemary sprigs and turned every couple of minutes.

Spatchcocked chicken, rubbed with oil and whatever spices you fancy, just make sure it's not pink and the juices run clear.

Baked potatoes done in foil in the oven (do more than you think you need) then kept hot on the edge of the BBQ. Squeeze open and slather with butter.

It has to be a BBQ this weekend ... what are your foolproof, favourite BBQ suggestions for meals to share with friends (not burgers and sausages though...)?
