We went to the Japanese Fusion restaurant at lunctime , it was marvellous !
The portions they give are pretty big , but if you can"T eat it all not allowed to take away as one does in the States.
Probably someone will say it is to do with Elf & safety but that seems a bit daft to me .
You have paid for the food why should you not be allowed to take it away ?

dorsetpennt I thought this thread would be about poo bags too. Just popped in to complain about people leaving them lying around, pool preserved for posterity.

Okay, I'll complain about doggy bags instead. My mother was always terrible in smart restaurants wanting to pockets left over scraps, literally for her dog.
No worries about taking nice food home though.

Nonu - I love that you called Birmingham sophisticated tchsmile I'm not sure some would agree but I do. The Harvester which I went to last was in West Bromwich ! They have a lovely new little shopping centre there are are doing their best (and succeeding) to improve the badly neglected town. In a couple of years they may qualify for 'sophisticated' too. tchgrin

Reminds me of eating out with daughter and grand-kids a couple of years ago at an Italian chain. The youngest left quite a bit of pasta but since he likes it cold we asked for a doggy bag. It was brought rather reluctantly with a long form that mum had to fill in absolving them of any blame if he got food poisoning from their left overs!

Glad I wasn't the only one, Dorset! grin

Shows where my mind is - when I saw the notice 'doggy bags' I assumed they were dog poo bags.grin

Of course.

Nonu Sat 14-Dec-13 19:56:46

Ariadne , presumably they charge accordingly ??

Ariadne Sat 14-Dec-13 19:41:52

Most good restaurants will willingly serve small portions if you ask!

MY younger DGC think a Harvester is a great treat.

Glad you enjoyed it Nonu. I was in our local Harvester a few weeks ago and they were putting some food into doggy bags for people who couldn't manage their whole meal.

if my mum goes to eat out where ever it maybe! she does what glammanana sujest!! mashes everything up sprinkled pepper and salt on and sausage she cuts everything up....one thing though..when we stayed in a large hotel a couple of yrs ago in Scarborough there was obviously a full breakfast menu,, the sausages well!! were sort of cheap nasty ones....but on the menu the day after was pasta with "meatballs" the only thing was!!! the meatballs were not round!! they were "cut up sausages" hmm and !! another hotel we went to in Llandudno, the evening meal had small boiled new potatoes on....the day after we had "small sliced fried potatoes on our breakfast"!!!! at home if we have bits of left overs as the potatoes, then yes I will try and make use of them in maybe an omelette etc..but I know! where they have come from and who's plate.

Nonu Fri 13-Dec-13 17:06:10

this s quite a smartish restaurant so I am sure they would not serve childs portions . I COULD ask , as shyness and I are strangers !

You are ahead of me GLAM ! tchwink

Riverwalk Fri 13-Dec-13 15:53:50

I'm sure the restaurant is not re-cycling the leftovers!

Again, it's probably to do with H&S .... if someone keeps the food for days at home and becomes sick, then blames the restaurant.

glammanana Fri 13-Dec-13 15:44:44

Very strange nuno if that where the case then I would make sure the food left on the plate could not be recycled in any way, cover with sauce etc and any other condiment you can get your hands on.

littlegran Fri 13-Dec-13 15:39:40

sometimes i ask for a child;s portion if possible rather than asking for a doggy bag as i find most portions too much for me/

Ariadne Fri 13-Dec-13 12:18:02

I've had that treatment at Harvey Nicks, Gally - very smart. But you're right, the cakes don't seem quite the same...

tiggypiro Fri 13-Dec-13 08:41:57

Oh Gally ! Cake is always appetising !

Gally Thu 12-Dec-13 23:45:42

I have had afternoon tea with friends at Harvey Nicks and they will give any leftovers to you in a lovely box and then in a very fancy carrier bag. Somehow the cakes don't seem so appetising once you have got them home tchwink

Galen Thu 12-Dec-13 22:55:48

Or more worrying, recycling them?

Nonu Thu 12-Dec-13 22:51:00

Could be , and only saying , could be to tight to provide the containers !!!!!

Laugh !!

Aka Thu 12-Dec-13 22:47:33

lock local ... Sorry iPad thinks it knows best!

Aka Thu 12-Dec-13 22:46:59

I nearly always ask to take left over food home and have never been refused a 'doggy bag', even at our lock curry house. After all it's not their food after you've paid for it. Wonder what Fusion are doing with their leftovers then hmm
