Looking at the Sugar in Food thread, I just wondered what the most unusual breakfast among gransnetters will be. I'm in an eat whatever's kicking around mood and today I've had:

An over-lemoned (put juice in as well as grated zest) date slice
A pot of Assam Harmutty tea with whole milk (only kind we buy)

The above is my usual "dew bit" (c/f Thomas Hardy, Jude). Sometimes nutty flapjack instead of date slice.

A pear
A paté sandwich (forgotten what kind of paté but it's a good one from Waitrose and it needs using up)
Mug of teabag tea

Nothing yet, bar a cup of tea. It's a fasting day sad

I am taking the moral high ground

Sorry Cari. Was cruel. [shame]

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 04-Feb-14 11:21:48

kittylester Tue 04-Feb-14 10:38:10

Four small cups of tea with semskimmed milk and sugar
Bowl of fruit
Kipper with lemon and parsley butter.
2 slices of gf bread with butter and marmalade.

Lovely!!

Three cups of tea with coconut milk, no sugar, two Paul Rankin potato farls toasted, with Lurpak. Potato cakes have more flour content which I can't tolerate too well.

In about half an hour I shall have a Nescafe Skinny Latte as my morning treat.

I love Oats So Simple, jingl. One bag fills me up though and I like it with a dollop of Greek yoghurt and a tiny drizzle of honey. YUM!

glammanana Tue 04-Feb-14 10:31:39

Grannyknot Tue 04-Feb-14 10:30:07

I'll check GJ.

Grannyknot Tue 04-Feb-14 10:29:53

Ooh River that sounds nice.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 04-Feb-14 10:29:13

By popular request, they have made all the "varieties" of Oats So Simple larger by half. But not the original! hmm So I have to carefully measure out a half packet.

Riverwalk Tue 04-Feb-14 10:28:25

Two fried eggs on granary toast, topped with two anchovy fillets, and four baby plum tomatoes.

Coffee

smile

Bellasnana Tue 04-Feb-14 10:26:22

1 cup of tea with skimmed milk and one sugar
1 bowl of home-made porridge with a teaspoonful of breakfast sprinkle and a teaspoon of brown sugar.
1 cup of Nescafé with skimmed milk and one sugar. Have tried to give up the sugar in drinks but can't stand the taste without it. I admit I am addicted to sugar sad

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 04-Feb-14 10:25:39

One and a half bags of microwave porridge with tip of teaspoon golden syrup. (No added sugar in Oats So Simple original). That will see me through till lunchtime, with added coffees.

merlotgran Tue 04-Feb-14 10:25:35

Two slices of seeded wholemeal bread (DH calls it the sweepings of the granary floor!) with a little smattering of home made Seville orange marmalade - at least I know how much sugar is in there!

LARGE mug of PG Tips. No sugar. grin

MiceElf Tue 04-Feb-14 10:24:29

Two mugs of tea
A handful of almonds
A banana
A pear

That's my usual breakfast, but I sorted out the fridge and the cupboard next to it and ate at least six olives and the two cheese straws which HymnsElf had left in the box.

TwiceAsNice Tue 04-Feb-14 10:20:27

2 sliced of toast on wholewheat bread with butter and organic peanut butter.

About to squeeze several oranges as I do not want to waste them.

granjura Tue 04-Feb-14 10:17:35

Grannyknot- do check the amount of sugar in instant porridge- a friend of mine used to have those everyday was really shocked at the amount (no problem when occasional of course- but it's good to know). It's also made with very small oat pieces, rather than whole, and the GI (glycemic index) is much higher than large oats and leads to very fast and high sugar peaks.

granjura Tue 04-Feb-14 10:14:45

1 cup tea (no milk, no sugar)
2 cups of black coffee
1 bowl of homemade porridge with 1 tsb of cinnamon sugar mix and 1/2 skimmed milk.

Grannyknot Tue 04-Feb-14 10:14:28

I've had an instant porridge sachet thingy that I got given free at the station yesterday, with a dollop of real butter in it, and a swirl of skimmed milk (whole milk makes me queasy these days but I drank it for years) and a sprinkle of brown sugar, and half a dozen "physalis" (or as I would call them Cape Gooseberries) fruits on top (because they needed using up).

About to have a cup of tea.
