Ground coffee advice please.

Most supermarkets have a fairtrade version. The strength numbers on the packets are useful. If you like your coffee fierce and strong go for no.5; if you like it gentle go for no.2. We get Ethiopean or Colombian fairtrade nos two or three from Coop or Waitrose.

I think Oxfam and definitely Sainsburys sell fair trade ground coffee.

The coffee will be ready ground and a numbering system is used 3 is mild and what I would recommend for you and 5 (which I drink) is strong.

Put one dessert spoon of coffee per person in cafetiere then poor boiling water into a separate cup and pour into cafetiere eg 3 dessert spoons, 3 cups of boiling water for 3 people.

We have made a small mark in tippex on the side of the cafetiere to show where we need to pour up to for say 2 cups, or 4 cups so we know for the future how to make the perfect cup of coffee.

Don't overthink this Shysal any coffee lover will be pleased that you are offering real coffee rather than the instant stuff. There's simply too much choice though! Just go for a medium grind, a medium colour, unless your planning on having something to please everyone.

I'd put in a rounded tablespoon for each mug, that way if it look too strong you can always add more water. Or better still, ask one of your visitors to show you how much they like when you first do it.

Thank you ladies, I know what I am doing now. I gave the cafetiere a wash this morning and discovered that the glass was cracked! I have ordered another from eBay.
