Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

Very fresh eggs can cause problems Sparky. I once hard boiled a large number of eggs, bought direct from the farm, for a Harvest supper and had a terrible job removing the shells! I have since learnt that plunging into vinegar for 10 minutes after boiling makes pealing easy for quail's eggs, anyone know if it works with hen's?

jingle, IMO poached eggs don't taste so good when they haven't been submerged in the water. DD1 uses a microwave thingy, but I was not impressed. You have to pierce the yolk to prevent an explosion!

Rib eye steak, maman potatoes, salad. Usual Friday night fare! wine

Pesto chicken pasta. It's lovely.

Now that's one to try for sure, Galen. Might it also work with tinned tuna?

Galen Fri 20-Jun-14 15:30:58

Tin of salmon heated in condensed cream of mushroom soup with fresh tomatoes. All done in the microwave.

Family coming to celebrate a weekend of fun for DS's 40th on Monday.

Starting with Loaded potato shells bought by DH - because he likes them.
Followed by salmon, watercress sauce, new pots and mixed veg - because DinL isn't into meat much.
Lemon Meringue - the birthday boy's favourite
Bottle or so of Bubbly - because I like that.

Cheers folks.

It is delicious, partly because there are different tastes as you work your way down the pot. I only when it when it is half-price, otherwise I would be huge(r)!

Sorry you feel low Janerowena hope the icecream helped. I had never heard of Karamel Sutra but on looking it up on Google, I am now salivating.

janerowena Thu 19-Jun-14 21:21:03

Couscous with mixed roasted veg, mixed salad with olives and feta cheese. Followed by half a tub of Karamel Sutra. Because I felt a bit low.

annodomini Thu 19-Jun-14 20:04:16

Fasting day. Baked salmon fillet with a mixed salad.

Gagagran Thu 19-Jun-14 20:02:19

We had fresh pasta with smoked salmon bits, peas and philly. Black pepper and very tasty too!

Lona Thu 19-Jun-14 19:42:40

Probably Ana! blush grin

Ana Thu 19-Jun-14 19:37:16

Wasn't that just the starter, Lona? grin

I decided to be healthy and Italian (bone idle really) and had Caprese (sp?) salad. Mozzarella, tiny plum tomatoes and basil, liberally sprinkled with olive oil.
Takes 2 minutes and the oil keeps everything moving smoothly wink

I'll be starving again before long!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 19-Jun-14 19:23:34

Good for you Elegran. And you don't have to wait ages for your food. smile

Nelliemoser Thu 19-Jun-14 19:13:41

Spinach and Sweet potato with a lentil dahl, absolutely lovely comfort food.

Elegran Thu 19-Jun-14 18:48:16

If I didn't go on my own i would never go jings so when the mood strikes I just set off. I like the carvery because you don't feel as though you are dining alone in solitary splendour with hot and cold running waiters.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 19-Jun-14 18:47:45

I can only poach eggs using these

sparkygran Thu 19-Jun-14 18:11:17

Disaster has struck like some others didn`t feel like cooking tonight so thought poached eggs on toast would be light and nourishing (do you like that) anyway the eggs just decided to cast off the white and I was left with 4 yolks and bits of white. Can eggs be too fresh to be poached? Mine were bought just yesterday from local source. I`ve poached for many years successfully but tonight not to be repeated - I hope

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 19-Jun-14 18:07:33

I wanted to go to Toby Carvery today Elegran but DH wanted to go out flying his model aeroplanes and I let him. Why did n't I think of going on my own?! hmm

We're having "homemade" meat pies which I bought from a little deli last week in Wales. With broccoli (and potato for DH only)

Kiora Thu 19-Jun-14 17:57:23

I don't know what this chicken dish is called but it's sooooo very easy to make. It's chicken breast, cut a pocket in the top of the breast fill with Cream cheese, wrap in bacon cook for 20 minutes at 180 for 20 minutes. It can served with anything. Potatoes with veg or just salad. It's so versatile. Lovely

joannapiano Thu 19-Jun-14 17:36:58

Venison sausages, mash and peas.
Oh NO! Somebody killed Bambi!!
Perhaps it was Jeanette Winterson shock

kittylester Thu 19-Jun-14 17:14:00

Paprika chicken, rice and peas - another dinner from the freezer. Hope no-one notices that we had chicken curry and rice last night shock

whitewave Thu 19-Jun-14 17:12:04

Oh that sounds such a good idea the problem I have is that that would clash with the wretched football!! Perhaps if we have nothing DH won't notice!

Elegran Thu 19-Jun-14 17:08:14

I felt like that yesterday, so I walked down the road to the Toby Carvery. £5.99 for roast chicken, gammon, roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas, cauliflower in white sauce, cabbage, redcurrant jelly, apple sauce, horseradish sauce and gravy. I passed on the Yorkshire puddings and mashed potatoes. All beautifully cooked, and no hot kitchen and no dishes to wash.
