Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

Don't feel like cooking tonight so not sure what we will be having

rubysong Thu 19-Jun-14 14:34:14

Galen I hope you have restricted the roots of your fig tree. We did, but not enough and it has gone mad. It hangs over some steps the post lady uses and threatens to poke her in the eye so we keep having to cut it back. This year it actually has a few figs on it, for the first time in years.

Galen Thu 19-Jun-14 12:36:01

I've just planted a fig tree. Has one fig at present.

Galen Thu 19-Jun-14 12:34:56

Nothing for next month at least. I've eaten too much and too well and you can see it!

Ariadne Thu 19-Jun-14 11:40:26

Mushroom Stroganoff last night (home made) Out again tonight so whatever the veggie option is!

DD is making inside out bean burgers for tomorrow (they have the cheese in the middle) so chips will, I think, be needed. Do hope so!

Annodomini you have made me laugh with the reminder that my mother also had an obsession with bowels and we were also given Syrup of Figs "to keep us regular" ah those were the days.

Also Gagagran my mother did the same with dried figs we had them with lovely yellow Bird`s custard

Gagagran Thu 19-Jun-14 10:18:58

Another fig-resister here anno. My Mum used to soak dried figs then stew them into a sort of mush and try to make us eat them for pudding. I always heartily disliked them - and still do!

annodomini Thu 19-Jun-14 10:12:46

I have a lifelong and completely irrational resistance to figs because my mother had an obsession about my bowels and force-fed me Syrup of Figs. Even though everyone tells me there's no comparison, I still can't face them. blush
PS My bowels were fine as soon as I left home!

I love figs too and this year's crop is promising.
We rub chicken pieces with lemon juice and a bit of salt, refrigerate all day then barbecue. In fact that is what we are having tonight with a salad of pearled spelt, red onion, avocado and feta.

sparkygran Thu 19-Jun-14 10:02:10

Yummy, yummy, yummy

shysal Thu 19-Jun-14 10:01:41

I wonder why Activia don't do the fig or rhubarb yoghurts in their fat free range, they are both delicious. I love figs, but have to be careful how many I eat! wink

My sister who lives in Italy always brings me a jar of her homemade fig jam and I put a dollop in rice pudding - just fab.

sparkygran Thu 19-Jun-14 09:12:05

I just can`t believe there others in the universe who like figs as well as me usually everyone I know runs a mile from them. My grandmother used to make the most wonderful fig pudding but sadly the receipt has been lost in the mists of time.

Thanks BeeWitch for reminding me of poached eggs we will have them tonight as its just too hot to cook at the moment

glammanana Thu 19-Jun-14 07:45:28

Maggie. I am searching for good slow cooker recipes. How do you make lemon chicken please?

glammanana Wed 18-Jun-14 20:32:30

gangy5 Its worthwhile looking at their recipe for stuffed aubergines its in one of their "Curry Books" but is available on line to copy it is so good, serve it with cous-cous and chunky tossed vegetables well worth searching out.

DH is on his second session with Slimming World at the moment so we had one of their recipes. It was called Golden Mac'n Cheese. I won't say what I thought of it!!?? Nothing like Macaroni Cheese which is a fave. The salad was nice though.

Yrs, NK, Maltesers just about slip into the treat cupboard unnoticed. The other half likes them but I'm not so keen. I put a pack of normal size Snickers into the freezer and find that, frozen solid, they taste good and last a long time. i like to regard one of them as a nice 'pudding'. Much better, I think, than the Snickers or Mars ice creams.

whitewave Wed 18-Jun-14 20:21:28

yes and me -really I could eat eggs any time

glammanana Wed 18-Jun-14 20:20:23

All home made whitewave parboiled before putting into to cook and crisp,I'm not too fond of ketchup but must have "semi-runny" egg yoke to dip chips into.

Bez Wed 18-Jun-14 20:20:14

I am having a starving day today so gave DH ham salad at lunchtime so tonight I made cheese omelette and we had green beans and endives with a slice of maize bread.
