I thought this was supposed to be about new sandwich fillings? hmm

What's wrong with Ovaltine Rowan? (apart from the sugar)

There was a particular cafe in Spain that I liked to go to that did a wonderful sandwich (can't remember what they called it) but it was bread, lightly toasted, filled with chicken, salad, onion, mayo and slices of pineapple - delicious. I have made it at home as the family loved it and worried that it wouldn't taste the same but it did grin

ROWAN I"ll send one over , and will even cut the crusts off if you like !

jingl - OVALTINE? Really?? shock

Rowantree Thu 10-Jul-14 11:19:49

I hasten to add that like Nonu I'd also love a smoked salmon sarnie grin. Anyone offering?

MMmmm, some of these are making me feel very hungry. I love fresh crab - also avocado, though the latter preferably not draped with bacon (I hate picking gobbets of fat out from my sandwich)...

Other than that, I'm a simple soul and I love egg and cress/ egg and tomato/egg and salad/egg and mayo/egg and gherkin sandwiches or rolls. And the roll has to be wholemeal - or crusty white smile

I am very partial to a smoked salmon sandwich on brown bread with a squeeze of lemon juice !

Failing that I am also partial to a BLT on Italian , from "Subway" !

Yummy, yummy to both !

That's dry Ovaltine, like it comes out of the tin.

Banana and Ovaltine is very nice - I seem to remember.

Didn't Mr Presley pig out on banana and peanut butter sarnies -- deep fried?
In butter?

grannyactivist Thu 10-Jul-14 08:33:22

Unsalted of course - dratted ipad!

bags - not a unique invention I'm afraid. A friend often serves peanut butter and banana sandwiches for high tea and if there are also salad leaves on the table will pop them in her sandwich. Not a great fan myself, but it's a favourite sandwich of hers.
My favourite is freshly baked granary bread with hand picked crab and unsealed butter.

Mice, that is a meal in itself! I mash up canned tuna with half a pack of Philly (usually lower fat), add mayo, seasoning and lemon juice and that's my sandwich spread for a couple of lunch times.

Whole grain bread, spread with garlic Boursin, then slices of salami (preferably French rosette) topped with cornichon, eat as an open sandwich. It's absolutely yummy!

Reminiscent of cravings. Is there something somebody is not telling us?grin

Anne58 Wed 09-Jul-14 22:56:22

Bleurgh! HATE banana!

Grannyknot Wed 09-Jul-14 22:49:00

Mice Elf, yum!

I like the sound of peanut butter and banana, Bags.

My current fave is breseola and rocket with horseradish. Must have butter on the sandwich.

It takes a bit of time but:

A large slice of sourdough or rye bread. On the that spread half an avocado mashed with a little garlic and a drop of lemon juice.

Then, spread a baking tray with very thinly sliced baby aubergines, cherry tomatoes, red and yellow peppers, mushrooms and onion, bake with olive oil until just tender. Scatter these on the top and scatter with toasted hazelnuts. Garnish with chopped flat leaf parsley

My favourite winter sandwich filling is raw, shredded brussels sprout and marmite in a warm roll.

At the moment it's any decent cheese with home-grown tomatoes.

must admit thatbags I wouldn't have thought of that particular combo!
However, I'm not keen on peanut butter so can't try it. My fave sandwich at the moment is grated Double Glost. cheese with homemade plum chutney and sliced cherry tomatoes.YUM.

peanut butter, sliced half banana (longwise), lamb's lettuce

What's your favourite sandwich at the moment?
