Doughnut peaches

I have noticed these peaches on sale recently, so this afternoon I bought some which were reduced in Lidl. However, they are rock hard. Will they ripen at room temperature , do they have much flesh, and does the stone take up most of the fruit? I seem to remember somebody saying on here that they had enjoyed one, so I would be interested to hear others' views.

Should ripen fine. They're the best to make Bellinis with!

They should not take any longer than usual peaches !

I might add that they are nice and sweet.

Saw someone buying some yesterday....I did think then there must be a higher proportion of stone to flesh!!

This is why I buy large potatoes! More potato to skin...

I bought two packs of these from Lidl and they are delicious. So sweet, and they seem to ripen very quickly.

I hope they have some left, Lona. I am going to head to Lidl's this morning. I'm looking forward to fresh peaches when we reach Provence in two weeks' time. Lovely morning here!

Lona absolutely agree. When we are in France (the only place I have seen them) I buy them in preference to the usual standard peach.

I got what appeared to be the last ones, Lona and am looking forward to getting in the holiday mood!

I've still got a pack in the 'frig smile, glad you got some anno.
I think they are much nicer than ordinary peaches or nectarines Flick.

Enjoy your holiday anno envy

I thought they were Portuguese peaches until DD1 told me that she could get them in UK as we'll. Lovely flavour and they ripen in a bowl more successfully than the usual ones.

Saw them here for the first time last year. I find they taste super and the stone is small in proportion with the fruit. Much prefer them when I can get them.

I have just eaten my first one, which ripened in a day. I am really impressed, it was very sweet and the shape made it easy to eat without cutting first, and although there was lots of juice it didn't drip down my chin! I shall be buying more if they have them, £1 for 5 is not bad.

My DH bought one doughnut peach this morning at our local pick your own fruit farm. I have never tried them before. It was delicious, so juicy and sweet. Why oh why didhe buy only one?sad

shock KatyK They were 7 for £1 in a pack in my local Lidl about ten days ago!

Silverfish Mon 21-Jul-14 19:15:22

They were 57p for 6 at asda yesterday I bought some but not tried them

shysal Tue 22-Jul-14 09:43:46

The prices seem to changing rapidly. Last I saw in Lidl were 6 for £1, but off to Asda today so will look out for the 57p ones!

hildajenniJ Tue 22-Jul-14 09:53:18

Ooh I love these. Bought some in Aldi on Saturday for £1.00 for six. Ate the last one for breakfast this morning. We have no Asda nearby so I'll have to shop around if they can be had for 57p.

ffinnochio Tue 22-Jul-14 10:14:12

These are certainly delicious. They're called Pêche plate here - wondered what on earth you were all talking about initially. smile

shysal Tue 22-Jul-14 13:04:38

Just returned from Asda with 3 packs of 4 for 46p each, in a reduced basket.

annodomini Tue 22-Jul-14 13:23:57

To answer your misgivings, Alie, the stone in these peaches is quite a bit smaller than the stone in the big peaches, so the proportion of stone to flesh isn't much different.

Ana Tue 22-Jul-14 15:23:09

They're 57p for a pack of four in my local Asda today.

At the weekend I paid £1 for a pack of 5 from Tesco (where they're sold as 'flat peaches' confused).
