Funnily enough, Maggot was my hated childhood nickname. Maybe that's why I feel guilty when I accidentally cook them.
Mind you, worst carnage was the organic broccoli. I'll never forget lifting the saucepan lid to discover a host of green caterpillars who'd crawled to the topmost points of the florets and expired. Looked like they were praying for rescue.

I examined the plums very carefully when I made plum jam this afternoon. No extra meat ration though.

Poor maggot. sad

granjura Sat 23-Aug-14 21:06:09

No smile finding half a maggot is always much worse, of course.

It may not have been very nutritious as you would have boiled all of the goodness out of it.

It was teeny. Hopefully it had no friends and relations

Half the household vegetarian... I took it out anyway - luckily had my glasses on so I spotted it - you could tell it wasn't a bit of plum as there was the black spot for the eyes.

The maggot would have been full of plum anyway! I often notice them when I pick blackberries, but don't worry at all. Keep 'mum'!

DD says the slugworms in China are not too bad either - crispy on the outside and squishy in the middle. I am yet to try them - not too sure what is holding me back !

Good source of protein. Fried locusts are very nice as well

tiggypiro Sat 23-Aug-14 18:55:37

Extra protein !

Are any of them vegetarian? hmm

rosequartz Sat 23-Aug-14 18:02:45

Don't tell them. They will all be fighting over who gets it.

NfkDumpling Sat 23-Aug-14 18:02:04

Well, it was cooked wasn't it?

rosequartz Sat 23-Aug-14 17:56:18

Did you leave it in or take it out? grin

FlicketyB Sat 23-Aug-14 17:39:53

Quite agree. What the eye can't see the heart (or stomach) can't grieve over

Nonu Sat 23-Aug-14 17:39:49

NO WAY!!

Phew !

Elegran Sat 23-Aug-14 17:31:47
