I've finally got round to ordering one, mainly so that I can get rid of the juicers I've bought and hardly used. Has anyone else got one [I know someone said they were planning to]? I don't tend to eat my 'five a day' so I'm hoping it will lead to a more healthier lifestyle.

Tegan you might be making your green tea too strong. If you make it weak to start with you will begin to like the taste. It took me a few weeks to get used to tea with no milk, now I can't drink any tea with milk. I don't use tea bags either, at the moment I have a small tin and it's called Tiny Tin of Tea....Buddhas Tears, loose leaf scented green tea, I have been really enjoying it. Each leaf is rolled up into a small ball and I use the same three leaves for about three mugs of tea, otherwise I use loose leaf green tea from China which I buy from the market.

Into my second week using the Nutribullet daily and I've doubled my intake of fruit and veg to more than 10 a day. I feel healthier and more energised and have dropped a dress size without any effort. It still bemuses me to be drinking a blend of mixed leaves, veggies and fruits. Just had a gorgeous mango, veg and orange smoothie that had a lovely perfumed grass smell grin

Hi everyone, I too have just got the Nutribullet from The Mail offer, and am just experimenting and learning.

I have buying fresh baby spinach and freezing it, and also chopping bananas up and freezing them. I find the frozen banana makes it thicker and I like the smoothie to be really cold.

I also sometimes add ground linseed and chia seeds, which are meant to be good for you. I add these first with a little water and give them a quick blast on their own to blend them down more. It does make the smoothie a horrible colour, but it tastes nice.

I too use the big container and don't fill it over the line. I am trying to lose a lot of weight, so try and not have too much fruit, it's a good way for me to eat more greens.

How do they differ from a liquidiser? Or a soup maker? I'm tempted to get one but I'm totally confused.

DH says it's just a way to get you to spend more money, but he would. hmm

Does it stop you being hungry? (for slimming)

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Feb-15 16:32:37

They said a little while back that chewing helps stop you getting dementia. So that's against it. confused

I'm over-thinking this.

seacliff Sun 01-Feb-15 16:50:43

I think it IS a liquidiser. I already have a blender on my kenwood and tried that first, not great at blending spinach and greens. Don't know about soup makers.

I like the Nutribullet cos it's very easy to clean and quick to use. It makes just enough for me, not huge quantities.

Some days I have a green smoothie in morning and feel quite full until mid day (not usual for me!). My teeth unfortunately are not strong so I always eat apples carefully, much easier to whizz one up in a smoothie.

Plus, when I get home from work I don't want much/can't face making a proper meal, and can be tempted by junk food. Having a smoothie then is a quick way of getting some goodness in me.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Feb-15 16:59:05

Thank you seacliff. I am very tempted. I have got a juicer daughter gave me some time back now, but you get a lot of left-over fibre, and it's a devil to clean and re-assemble. Nutribullet sounds much better.

Smoothies make me gag so I won't be getting one.

When might I ask, are you eating only smoothie-type things, and if so, how are your stools?

seacliff Sun 01-Feb-15 17:34:50

How I clean mine - as soon as I've whizzed it, i put in a glass ready to drink. Then I immediately add a little warm (not hot) water and 1 drop washing up liquid to dirty container, give it a quick whizz, then rinse cup, and run blades under tap without soaking whole blade bottom. Dry with blades down on a dry teatowel.

I got the mail offer which included 3 year warranty. I have heard of some problems with them so I would get from either Lakeland (lifetime guarntee) or John Lewis (2 yrs I think) just in case.

They aren't probably as nice to drink as juice, but possibly better for you with the fibre included, and easy to clean.

Mine is still leaking slightly. But I used the coffee bean thingy to whiz the walnuts yesterday and then added them to the main mixer so I didn't have to have it on for so long. As soon as I take the plastic container out I turn the whole thing upside down in case some juice has escaped. I haven't ate apples on a regular basis for years cause my teeth are a bit dodgy so it's good to be eating one a day again. What I've realised [looking on the thread about alkali food] is that most of the recipes are alkali. Today mine contained apple, carrot, celery, spinach, rocket, watercress, banana [always have banana] walnuts, hemp, almonds, honey bio yoghurt, cinnamon and green tea. I'm just about to eat my tea but haven't felt hungry all day. I keep meaning to have a day without using it but, when I wake up in the morning I really look forward to having one.

Ana Sun 01-Feb-15 18:35:01

I'm a bit puzzled by what you say about having to have it on for so long, Tegan. Mine seems to be done in about 2-3 seconds - any longer and it's just sludge! confused

Ana Sun 01-Feb-15 18:35:55

(And that's with walnuts as well)

Tegan Sun 01-Feb-15 19:10:31

I do cram an awful lot in sometimes.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Feb-15 19:51:38

With the instructions for my juicer it warned against using more than (I think) three different kinds of fruit/veg. How do you Nutribullet users get away with piling so many different things into it, and then into you? Does it have remarkable effects? confused

Ana Sun 01-Feb-15 19:56:09

I tend to stick to three or four. No point overdoing it! grin

I vary the ingredients during the week.

whenim64 Sun 01-Feb-15 20:17:59

Riverwalk thanks for asking grin. They are quite normal. I am not dieting or replacing meals - just using the Nutribullet to ensure my fruit, veg, nuts and seeds intake is much higher. I eat a normal breakfast, don't want much for lunch, so have a Nutribullet drink and maybe a salad or small sandwich, evening meal is light eg fish and veg, and in the evening the remainder of the made up drink and maybe an apple or two. I don't feel inclined to eat as many carbs.

It isn't a juicer as it blasts the whole fruit, veg, seeds etc and leaves no pulp. The idea is that you can absorb more of what you're having, which chewing doesn't always provide.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Feb-15 21:10:50

Nothing like coming right out with it Riverwalk! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Feb-15 21:12:30

Tegan perhaps not talk about "leaking slightly"?!

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Feb-15 21:13:16

I'm surprised you're not all doing a lot more than that.

Riverwalk Sun 01-Feb-15 21:23:26

I am a nurse jings - nothing more important than the Bristol Stool Chart!

whenim64 Sun 01-Feb-15 21:26:30

My son has that chart pinned on his bathroom door! (also a nurse) grin

Riverwalk Sun 01-Feb-15 21:29:56

I worry about global warming with all this kale being consumed.

Riverwalk Sun 01-Feb-15 21:31:47

I heard a doctor on the radio a week or so ago who wasn't keen on this. She said the fibre in the fruit and veg was broken down and the glucose (I think) was released. However, reading all the good reports I am tempted!

whenim64 Mon 02-Feb-15 10:56:55

I think it has to be used sensibly. Blasting a load of fruit can result in increased glucose levels and can affect acid levels in the stomach. Putting half veg and half fruit is advised, and don't stop eating whole fruit and veg normally. I struggled to get lots of veg down - I just ran out of steam with too much to eat - my meals are much smaller these days. This way, I can eat more healthily and I feel so much more energetic from it. I use the MyFitnessPal app to check I keep sugar levels low and am getting nutrients across the board.
