I've finally got round to ordering one, mainly so that I can get rid of the juicers I've bought and hardly used. Has anyone else got one [I know someone said they were planning to]? I don't tend to eat my 'five a day' so I'm hoping it will lead to a more healthier lifestyle.

(And that's with walnuts as well)

Ana Sun 01-Feb-15 18:35:01

I'm a bit puzzled by what you say about having to have it on for so long, Tegan. Mine seems to be done in about 2-3 seconds - any longer and it's just sludge! confused

Tegan Sun 01-Feb-15 18:31:14

Mine is still leaking slightly. But I used the coffee bean thingy to whiz the walnuts yesterday and then added them to the main mixer so I didn't have to have it on for so long. As soon as I take the plastic container out I turn the whole thing upside down in case some juice has escaped. I haven't ate apples on a regular basis for years cause my teeth are a bit dodgy so it's good to be eating one a day again. What I've realised [looking on the thread about alkali food] is that most of the recipes are alkali. Today mine contained apple, carrot, celery, spinach, rocket, watercress, banana [always have banana] walnuts, hemp, almonds, honey bio yoghurt, cinnamon and green tea. I'm just about to eat my tea but haven't felt hungry all day. I keep meaning to have a day without using it but, when I wake up in the morning I really look forward to having one.

How I clean mine - as soon as I've whizzed it, i put in a glass ready to drink. Then I immediately add a little warm (not hot) water and 1 drop washing up liquid to dirty container, give it a quick whizz, then rinse cup, and run blades under tap without soaking whole blade bottom. Dry with blades down on a dry teatowel.

I got the mail offer which included 3 year warranty. I have heard of some problems with them so I would get from either Lakeland (lifetime guarntee) or John Lewis (2 yrs I think) just in case.

They aren't probably as nice to drink as juice, but possibly better for you with the fibre included, and easy to clean.

Smoothies make me gag so I won't be getting one.

When might I ask, are you eating only smoothie-type things, and if so, how are your stools?

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Feb-15 16:59:05

Thank you seacliff. I am very tempted. I have got a juicer daughter gave me some time back now, but you get a lot of left-over fibre, and it's a devil to clean and re-assemble. Nutribullet sounds much better.

seacliff Sun 01-Feb-15 16:50:43

I think it IS a liquidiser. I already have a blender on my kenwood and tried that first, not great at blending spinach and greens. Don't know about soup makers.

I like the Nutribullet cos it's very easy to clean and quick to use. It makes just enough for me, not huge quantities.

Some days I have a green smoothie in morning and feel quite full until mid day (not usual for me!). My teeth unfortunately are not strong so I always eat apples carefully, much easier to whizz one up in a smoothie.

Plus, when I get home from work I don't want much/can't face making a proper meal, and can be tempted by junk food. Having a smoothie then is a quick way of getting some goodness in me.

They said a little while back that chewing helps stop you getting dementia. So that's against it. confused

I'm over-thinking this.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Feb-15 16:29:21

How do they differ from a liquidiser? Or a soup maker? I'm tempted to get one but I'm totally confused.

DH says it's just a way to get you to spend more money, but he would. hmm

Does it stop you being hungry? (for slimming)

seacliff Sun 01-Feb-15 16:14:32

Hi everyone, I too have just got the Nutribullet from The Mail offer, and am just experimenting and learning.

I have buying fresh baby spinach and freezing it, and also chopping bananas up and freezing them. I find the frozen banana makes it thicker and I like the smoothie to be really cold.

I also sometimes add ground linseed and chia seeds, which are meant to be good for you. I add these first with a little water and give them a quick blast on their own to blend them down more. It does make the smoothie a horrible colour, but it tastes nice.

I too use the big container and don't fill it over the line. I am trying to lose a lot of weight, so try and not have too much fruit, it's a good way for me to eat more greens.

Into my second week using the Nutribullet daily and I've doubled my intake of fruit and veg to more than 10 a day. I feel healthier and more energised and have dropped a dress size without any effort. It still bemuses me to be drinking a blend of mixed leaves, veggies and fruits. Just had a gorgeous mango, veg and orange smoothie that had a lovely perfumed grass smell grin

Tegan you might be making your green tea too strong. If you make it weak to start with you will begin to like the taste. It took me a few weeks to get used to tea with no milk, now I can't drink any tea with milk. I don't use tea bags either, at the moment I have a small tin and it's called Tiny Tin of Tea....Buddhas Tears, loose leaf scented green tea, I have been really enjoying it. Each leaf is rolled up into a small ball and I use the same three leaves for about three mugs of tea, otherwise I use loose leaf green tea from China which I buy from the market.

When mine leaks I turn it upside down straight away. I do tend to put a lot of stuff in it.

whenim64 Fri 23-Jan-15 21:22:03

Tegan my son said his leaked when he packed it too tightly so the liquid had nowhere to go but past the gasket. Now he always uses the bigger cup and puts a little less in and it's stopped leaking. Seems to be a common problem.

rose grin Attagirl!

Tegan Fri 23-Jan-15 20:54:07

Oh good. Mine leaked again today, though and I still don't know why it sometimes happens.

whenim64 Fri 23-Jan-15 20:13:39

Second day with my new Nutribullet and I'm impressed. I got lots of tips from my son today and he made me a carrot, strawberry, lettuce, blueberry, banana and almond Nutriblast. Very more-ish. There's lots of ideas on the Facebook Nutribullet page.

Thats the weird thing; I've had awful tummy problems over the years [IBS type stuff] but it hasn't caused any problems in that department [not in the way that bread does]. My nails don't split the way that they did and my skin looks really good. Even my hair looks healthier; I sometimes wonder if it would have prevented the awful fall out of hair that I had a couple of ears ago. Then again, it could just be that I was really stressed and overtired with work and this has just coincided with me retiring. I'll ask my daughter tomorrow if she feels any better [if she's using it, that is] but, then again she's cut back her hours as well.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 18-Jan-15 19:33:47

What about the other end? It sounds like an awful lot of fruit and veg.

Ana Sun 18-Jan-15 19:31:51

I didn't get any special powder!

Will try the greens with the fruit - I do use quite a lot of walnuts and almonds too, and I like the way you can make the mixture as smooth or as lumpy as you like, although you have to get the timing right as it's so quick!

rosequartz Sun 18-Jan-15 19:29:49

I thought it was going to be a pill you could take instead of food and it would save all that cooking.

Tegan Sun 18-Jan-15 19:27:17

You do actually get the xtras if you buy it from Rymans etc. That's where I bought the others from and thought I wouldn't get the recipe books and special powder etc, but I did. I use either spinach or the remains of any spinach, rocket and watercress salad that I have. Buy kale sometimes but you get an awful lot in a bag and I don't always use it up [at least with spinach you can make soup with it]. jings; it really is yummy and I look forward to having one at dinnertime [I don't eat breakfast]; I just don't eat a healthy diet I'm afraid and would just make myself a cheese sandwich. You really don't taste the green vegetables at all, it's just like having a fruit smoothie that looks green. I add spirulina and honey and dates and cinnamon. I think that our bodies don't absorb nutrients as well as we get older and this is a good way to make sure we do. I think spinach is a good way of getting calcium as well. Sometimes I thow a bit of broccoli in instead.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 18-Jan-15 19:15:35

But is it an enjoyable way to get your nutrition. Isn't a normal healthy diet a better way?

whenim64 Sun 18-Jan-15 19:12:34

Just checked out the Mail on Sunday offer. Lots of extras thrown in and price is £99.99 so not much different from other offers, but thanks.

Tegan thanks for the update. I think I'll take the plunge and get one.

Ana Sun 18-Jan-15 19:06:28

Tegan, do you always use a base of greens, as all the suggested recipes seem to? I must admit I don't, but I'm wondering whether I should.

Spring greens or kale just don't seem right blended with fruit!
