Love the nutty flavour of lentils. I pop them into soup as often as I can. x

Couscous is semolina...hmm

Nonu Sun 11-Jan-15 20:35:39

STAN really don"t know what you mean, you will have to spell it out.

TEGAN the windy pops are not so bad as long as the person you share your bed with, has had them too.

ROSEgood theory , but of course people abuse their bodies so much more with sugar and alcohol.

TRICIA lovely to hear of a supportive voice x

Couscous is nothing like semolina hmm

loopylou Sun 11-Jan-15 20:27:30

Never could get enthusiastic about lentils per se, ok if well disguised in a soup hmm, or Dahl.
As for 'detox', how on earth did the human race exist so long if detoxing (other than where substance abuse was involved) was necessary?
As Rosequartz says, that's the function of your kidneys and liver!

TriciaF Sun 11-Jan-15 20:25:44

I believe they're pure protein.
We like the orange ones but I'm not so keen on the green or brown.
I have a lovely recipe with lentils and different veg., aubergine, onions, courgettes and peppers.
But as Tegan noticed, they give you wind.

rosequartz Sun 11-Jan-15 20:05:31

Lentils in soup are nice and nutritious - occasionally.

The body has a very efficient detox system, called the kidneys and liver.

Tegan Sun 11-Jan-15 20:02:38

Tried living on lentil stew at one time to save money; very cheap and nutricious. Like most things of that kind gave me terrible wind blush. May give it another go, though, now that I don't have to go to work and be socially acceptable wink.

Nonu you don't really?shock this is a very public forum.

I think lentil soup is God's gift to the hungry and overdrafted. Also Nigella's split yellow pea. You do have be careful with frankfurters in the UK as they can be "extracted meat".which gives me the shudders. And I have a recipe for fish on a bed of leeks pancetta and puy lentils which we get quite tetchy with each other over the leftovers. Quite agree about the detox Margaretx she said as she downed her second glass of oz Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon .

Nonu Sun 11-Jan-15 19:48:55

Or should I say DECOKE, just like any other engine.
hmm

Nonu Sun 11-Jan-15 19:47:03

Well my system after Christmas needs a detox , ,just like any other engine .

durhamjen Sun 11-Jan-15 19:44:46

I love lentils. Maybe that's why I never feel the need to detox.

MargaretX Sun 11-Jan-15 19:40:21

correction: made not meade

MargaretX Sun 11-Jan-15 19:39:14

The sytem does not need detoxing - at any time of the year. It spends all of its energy everyday keeping the system running, the temp at at 37.C and the kidneys do the cleaning.
Detox is a way of getting money out of your pocket.
Where I live in Germany lentils are the local delicacy eaten by the people round Stuttgart every week. Served with Spätzle -a kind of home meade pasta and a wurst. You would call them Frankfurter but they are local as well.
As the people here are the most well off, the most inventive, and most diligent in this land you could say that lentils are good for you.

Enjoy........

Love lentils (much more than cats - just been on that thread) and use them often in soups, stews, nut loaves, etc. I like semolina too!

mcem Sun 11-Jan-15 19:30:32

My son's ham and lentil soup is deliciously warming in cold January.
Also, on the subject of fluffy kittens a friend has a beautiful fluffy orange kitten called Lentil.
Hurray 2 threads for the price of 1!!

Ana Sun 11-Jan-15 19:13:20

I don't like lentils.

It also occurred to me today to wonder why everyone raves about couscous these days when it's just semolina, which everyone hated at school...

Nonu Sun 11-Jan-15 19:09:28

Was having a good old chin wag with a friend earlier, who is a bit of a health nut[love her to bits though] who was telling me that Lentils are beneficial to all the organs in the body.
Suppose it all goes in with the cleansing and detox of the system at this time of the year, after all the over indulgence. Anyway just thought some folks may be interested, I certainly was.
