Monsanto alert. They are trying to take over Syngenta, in which case they will be unstoppable in GMO sales.

Excellent, Nfk.

Not exactly Monsanto, but as important, is this.

This is before TTIP comes in. Heaven help us if that gets passed.

Not very good at links and this is really long www.addictinginfo.org/2015/03/26/monsanto-lobbyist-swears-pesticide-safe-enough-to-drink-until-journalist-offers-him-a-glass-video/

As Bob Crow said, if you fight you won't always win. But if you don't fight you will always lose.

As well as being a very good novel, Barbara Kingsolver's 'Flight Behaviour' gives an immense amount of information about the Monarch Butterfly and its migratory patterns, but not in a didactic manner - she makes it all part of the story.

Signed both - let's hope there is some effect. About time too!

Grannybug Fri 27-Mar-15 08:34:24

Signed. Been opposing Monsanta for years and won't stop.

NfkDumpling Fri 27-Mar-15 07:41:54

Signed both.

We've just seen the tail end of the Monarch's migration. The locals are worried about the depletion of the butterflies numbers. One blamed the building developments in silicone valley but another couple believed farming methods to be the main culprit (Monsanto and GM were mentioned) as the Monarchs spread out a lot as the progress north.

MiniMouse Fri 27-Mar-15 00:08:07

Thanks for the link durhamj - signed for the butterflies.

Interested in butterflies?

With 5.5 million members of sumofus, I do not think I need to worry about Monsanto taking me to court.
They need to worry about this, though.

Thank you for your apology.
I can see where your genuine confusion arose, so I apologise too.

I am surprised to be honest, how long it has taken to come to the general public's awareness.

They have been a huge problem, particularly in the USA for, as I say, decades.

They are a very litiguous company too. Tread carefully, even with this thread.

Perhaps general public awareness will have a little effect? It hasnt in the USA as far as I am aware. I am negative about that with this company however. Sorry for the negativity about this.

durhamjen Sat 14-Mar-15 16:37:07

Sorry, I asssumed you wanted to know more, as you said from what little knowledge you have of them in your first post.

The reason they can get away with what they do is because people stop trying to find out what they are doing now.

It's the same with Nestle. Having been stopped by pressure groups from taking water from Asia, they are now trying to take over water supplies in Canada. The pressure has to be kept up on companies like these, otherwise they do win over the ordinary people.

soontobe Sat 14-Mar-15 16:29:44

I already know way more than I would like about Monsanto. They have been a problem for decades.

durhamjen Sat 14-Mar-15 16:24:36

By the way, you said you didn't read the link. If you did you might find out more about Monsanto.

durhamjen Sat 14-Mar-15 16:23:22

If it wasn't for groups like sumofus, there would be no mention of the google tax in next week's budget.

soontobe Sat 14-Mar-15 16:04:29

I shant be bothered to support you so much in future.

durhamjen Sat 14-Mar-15 15:52:15

Really, soontobe?

sumofus.org/press/

This is sumofus press to date. I think you will recognise some of the things they have managed to do.
They have actually got a lot of members at Monsanto now, and are putting proposals to the board. They are a corporate watch body, and very professional about it.

Why not just say you can't be bothered, or not say anything at all?

soontobe Sat 14-Mar-15 15:16:32

I didnt read the link!
I get fed up of signing things. In this case, I suspect, well sort of know from what they have done in the past, that signatures will make no difference whatsoever. They are a company well beyond signatures.
Not saying that you shouldnt though, or others.

durhamjen Sat 14-Mar-15 14:43:32

Have you signed, soontobe?

soontobe Sat 14-Mar-15 14:41:28

A frightening company from what little knowledge I have of them.

Not content with having taken over 95% of cotton in India, they now want to do the same with food crops.
