Oh loopylou I'm glad you lived to tell the tale grin One of our Italian friends gets away with asking for cappuccino in the afternoon because she has kidney trouble, so it's allowable on medical grounds!

DH (who is of Italian descent) dropped himself in it in Venice when he asked for a latte instead of a caffelatte and was given a cup of hot milk!

How can anyone not like espresso? Instant doesn't even taste like coffee.

The Millicano de-caff is not bad for a de-caff either.

NanKate Fri 24-Apr-15 19:39:59

Thanks for all the suggestions of Millicano. I am just drinking my first cup and it is definitely better than the normal instant. There is no horrid aftertaste.

I will stick to my ground coffee in the day and Millicano in the early evening.

I knew I could depend on you Gransnetters. brew

I always use Millicano Instant Coffee, including Decaff. It tastes better to me than any other Instant Coffee . Always look out for offers on it and seem to find them fairly often.

Ariadne brew

I'm with GillT57! Instant coffee is mever a substitute for the real thing, and I have tried them all. (OK, most of them.)

I have a SmartCafe mug - insulated, with its own cafetière type plunger, and that is so quick.

Yes Alta Rica for me- I'm a black coffee addict and cant always be fagged to make a cafetiere just for me and this ne is almost as good as a ground coffee.

Rosiebee Fri 24-Apr-15 00:02:59

Nescafe Alta Rica. Like you NanKate, I can't stand milky or weak coffee.

Anne58 Thu 23-Apr-15 23:04:29

I've always found that Nescafe Gold Blend has a slightly sweet taste. Although I take sugar in my coffee, blush I tend to take less if it is Gold Blend. (never buy it, but if that is what someone offers me)

NanKate Thu 23-Apr-15 21:42:39

Thanks all, I shall try the Millicano and report back. brew

Millicano or Carte Noire for me, the ones with whole bean taste.
I find ground coffee difficult because I don't like strong coffee, least of all black or espresso.
Made major faux pas in Italy when met DS' in-laws by requesting lattes after 11.00 am (cappuccino is as big a boo boo!)

GillT57 Thu 23-Apr-15 20:44:10

Sorry no such thing as good instant coffee as far as I am concerned only some that are not as ghastly as others. If you are boiling a kettle then it is just as easy to pour the water into a small cafetiere for one as it is to pour over a mug with a spoonful of awful instant.

rosesarered Thu 23-Apr-15 20:17:59

Nescafé Gold Blend or Cafe Noir is quite good.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 23-Apr-15 20:07:30

Marks and Sparks rich roast is good. And, yes, Millicano.

pompa Thu 23-Apr-15 20:02:07

WE use Millicano if we have to use instant, better than most if you like strong coffee.

NanKate Thu 23-Apr-15 19:53:03

I love fresh ground coffee, especially Italian or French blends! However in the evening I sometimes fancy a quick cup of instant, however it is hard to find a decent one.

Can anyone recommend a rich flavoured instant ? I don't like weak or milky coffee.
