I know this is a bit out of season but the thread about beans reminded me.

Does anyone remember having grey peas or 'carlins' during lent, although I suppose they could be eaten anytime of year.
I had them as a dessert, boiled, drained and loaded with sugar they were delicious. I think they may have been a wartime dish.

If anyone can tell me where to buy them I would be grateful, have tried typing 'grey peas' into the internet and got no results.

What search engine do you use, ethel? I got loads of results from IE for 'grey peas'. Yes, it looks as though you can buy them online (even on eBay!)

ana I typed it into google. This brings to mind the old rhyme 'carlin sunday-fartin monday', as Carlin sunday was part of lent.

btw I was told I could buy them in a pet shop and when I asked they told me they stocked them but were not for human consumtion
