What you can't give up food wise

Health issues so I have a list of things from the doc, what I can eat in plenty, what I can eat in moderation, and what I should avoid.

The one thing I refuse to give up is my lurpak butter on hot toast, oh it is such a treat for me.

What are the things you can't give up.

Aren't we all lucky here in the UK to be faced with a choice about what we eat? I'm sure there's lots of people who would find it very hard to give up their one bowl of rice sad

Chocolate and bananas.

I'm with you jeanie - doesn't have to be Lurpak, but hot buttered toast, or fresh crusty bread spread with unsalted butter, are my downfall and I would find it very hard to give them up.

I wouldn't give up Lurpak or butter of any kind. I love it.
Why has your doctor told you not to eat it jeanie?
The latest guidance from the American medical establishment is that saturated fats aren't harmful. I'll see if I can find a link for you.

I love bread, any variety, white with seeds in is my favourite. Home made is best.

www.nhs.uk/news/2015/02February/Pages/1980s-fat-guidelines-lacked-evidence-study-argues.aspx

The NHS article concludes 'There's nothing wrong with the occasional buttered scone. But, based on the current body of evidence, it would be potentially dangerous to think you can eat as much saturated fat as you want without it having an effect on your health.'

So, moderation in all things.

Decent coffee! I limit myself to two a day and always well before 2 p.m.

we are Xpats so it is, Brown sauce, proper tea bags, Jelly (DGS), Cheddar cheese, luckily M&S have just re-opened here and are only a 10 minute walk away, so all the treats are in the new food hall. I try to control my visits but it takes more than my willpower, especially as the prices are really reasonable.

Buttered toast is very tempting but what about chocolate or ice cream. Then there is roast beef and yorkshire pudding. Don't forget sponge pudding (any sort) and custard.

Oh dear I don't know what to choose.

Ariadne Sat 11-Jul-15 16:36:52

I'm with you, Hilda! Real, preferably freshly ground, good coffee, mornings only. Lovely.

ninathenana Sat 11-Jul-15 16:47:51

I wouldn't care if I never saw chocolate or icecream again. I would hate to be without cereal of any kind as it's my go too if I can't be a**ed to cook also PG Tips smile

Expat whingeing about Brown sauce and Marmite ...heard it all before ad infinitum. I'd find it hard to give up a potato .... my tastes are simple, but then I'm Irish. No fancy low carb diet for me

felice Sat 11-Jul-15 17:04:31

Sorry Absent i will whinge if I want to, you don't like it, tough!!! Oh I I hate Marmite.

chloe1984 Sat 11-Jul-15 17:18:11

Think I would find it very hard to give up chocolate marshmallows, proper tea and bacon.

Teetime Sat 11-Jul-15 17:26:53

My favourite foods are bread, chocolate and cheese but I have given them all up from time to time mostly to lose weight. I don't think I could give up coffee and if I gave up fruit and veg which is my main diet I would be in big trouble I should think.

shysal Sat 11-Jul-15 17:49:31

It would be a sad life for me without crusty bread, cheese and potatoes. I diet on alternate days, so fortunately can eat them every other day, in moderation. Carrot and pumpkin seed bread and Cambozola are calling to me from the kitchen!

annodomini Sat 11-Jul-15 17:50:21

I feel deprived if I have to do without apples.

rosesarered Sat 11-Jul-15 17:51:48

I can't live without Earl Grey tea and toast and marmalade.

Lona Sat 11-Jul-15 17:53:55

I'm not about to give up anything! What's the point of getting older if you can't enjoy yourself?

Lona Sat 11-Jul-15 17:55:07

Sorry about the little diamonds, I forgot where I was for a minute! wink
