...is on in less than 2 weeks. Thank goodness - telly has been dire of late.

MargaretX Thu 27-Aug-15 10:39:26

Does Paul read GN? After my post he decides to bake glutenfree bread and scones.

ginny Thu 27-Aug-15 13:08:41

I'm afraid that you cannot take the credit for that MargaretX, it was all filmed months ago. smile

AlgeswifeVal Fri 28-Aug-15 07:40:20

The talent that some people have, amazing. I watch this programme thinking I would like to try that but would never have the results they get on the programme. One comment though, I have to look away when Mary Berry samples the finished product.

Nandalot Fri 28-Aug-15 08:35:00

I'm still watching, Juliette. Two of my favourites are off already, Marie and Sandy. The men seem to be shaping up to be the stars this year.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 29-Aug-15 12:44:44

I'm still watching too and will miss Sandy. She was very funny on Extra Slice last night (whole show was good this week).

MargaretX it looked like the bakers were having trouble in the next show - can't wait! grin

whenim64 Sat 29-Aug-15 12:47:08

I loved Sandy's physical depiction of a crème brûlée wobble. Spot on! grin

merlotgran Sat 29-Aug-15 13:02:09

Yes. As soon as I spotted Lisa Tarbuck was one of the guests I reckoned the show would be good.

I'm sorry Sandy has gone but it was a bad week for her.

Greyduster Sat 29-Aug-15 13:14:51

If whatever-his-name-is gets star baker again next week and does his wide eyed "how has this happened to little me?" thing, I will vomit all over the tele!

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 29-Aug-15 13:49:00

That act is wearing a bit thin, so I liked it when the other bakers were taking the mickey out of him grin

I thought the German guy Henning Wehn was very funny, much funnier than when he's on Have I Got News For You?

Jo has settled in nicely to her role as presenter too.

annodomini Sat 29-Aug-15 13:58:53

Don't you think that the meringue thing they had to spend so much time constructing just degenerated into an 'Eton mess' once the judges cut into it?

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 29-Aug-15 22:03:32

I said to my husband that once it was on my plate it would be just like Eton Mess - so yes, I do! grin

Nandalot Sun 30-Aug-15 09:42:29

Yes, I thought 'Extra Slice' was great this week too. It seems to be better this year. Some of the public's bakes are amazing too. What about that handbag. Do you think it would taste as good as it looks?

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 30-Aug-15 17:59:32

The handbag was amazing, but if it was covered in icing then it looked like it would be more icing than cake!

Possibly one of my favourite series so far. No allegations of favouritism or bullying, just a great bunch

I LOVE watching Nadia and Tamal - hope one of them win!

merlotgran Wed 23-Sept-15 21:22:05

Shame Paul went. He started off so well but seemed to get worse as the series went on.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 23-Sept-15 21:27:40

He was great and for a while I thought he might be the dark horse, but I think that's Tamal.

Flora and Ian (especially Ian) get on my nerves a bit. It can a turn in a moment at this stage, but I hope the finalists are Flora, Nadia and Tamal.

felice Thu 24-Sept-15 09:55:16

Was it just me or were the bakes rather unappetising last night, Patisserie no, not really.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 24-Sept-15 10:38:54

I love patisserie, but not much appealed last night. Don't like cream horns or coffee flavoured icing and most of the show stoppers looked a bit anaemic to me. Didn't get the munchies watching last night's show! grin

annodomini Thu 24-Sept-15 10:40:09

I so want Ian to come unstuck. He is so insufferably smug. Nadia has gone from strength to strength and I would love to see her winning.

merlotgran Thu 24-Sept-15 10:43:49

I'm disappointed with the offerings this year. The designs are way over the top, bizarre flavourings - not in the least bit appetising and quite a lot of it collapses into a pile of goo.

Last night was the quarter final yet some of it of looked as though our DGCs had been amusing themselves in the kitchen.

AlieOxon Thu 24-Sept-15 11:23:21

No, no munchies. Bubblegum and peppermint???? Yuk.

Hoping for something more edible next week!

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 24-Sept-15 12:06:59

I would much rather have Paul than Ian still in the competition. I so agree about Ian's smugness and I don't think there's been a week when I haven't said to my DH "I wish he wouldn't say things like that out loud" about something Ian said to the camera. I'm sure he's a lovely guy, but I do wonder if his family and friends cringe as I do.

The bubble gum and peppermint would be good fun for a family party! I liked that Nadia chose these flavours and not something more traditional and just because Mary didn't like them doesn't mean lots of others wouldn't. Bah humbug! grin

mariann Thu 24-Sept-15 17:28:10

Actually they are treated unfairly. Mary appears and produces a wonderful cake and I know she must have baked several until one was finally so perfect. Just as she will have spent hours being back combed and made up and put in her brightly coloured jacket.
This perfect cake is then to be produced by the contestants in an oven where you have to kneel on the floor to look inside it. Whose idea was that?
And then in between you have to make conversation.

The messes they make sometimes! Although last night the cream horns looked mouthwatering. Good for them!

Does anyone know if the repat of Wednesday's programme is on this pm? It's usually on about 4pm, but can't see it today.
Only Japanese Grand Prix hmm

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 27-Sept-15 23:03:24

The only repeat I can find is on BBC2 on 6th October at 1.45am sad Can you watch it on iPlayer?
