...is on in less than 2 weeks. Thank goodness - telly has been dire of late.

Last year's winner, Nancy Birtwhistle, is writing a column commenting on the current series of GBBO in the DT. She said something about the girl whose cake collapsed having used gelatine in her mousse, and if you put anything gelatine based in a fridge, it has the opposite effect to setting it, which is why it collapsed. We live and learn!

My DH was also very pleased to see him go. I don't know whether he found the hat or the attoos more annoying grin

Pittcity Thu 06-Aug-15 10:18:59

All bets are off as there has been a suspected leak in the Ipswich area.

The innuendo was fabulous last night though!

merlotgran Thu 06-Aug-15 09:28:41

DH was over the moon when (his words) the T**t with the Hat was the first to go grin

annodomini Thu 06-Aug-15 09:20:06

That's reality TV for you - they let you see the failures as well as the successes. My jaw dropped a mile when that poor woman's cake spilled over the side of the tin. I thought Sue came into her own when she consoled her and persuaded her to carry on.

Teetime Thu 06-Aug-15 09:07:10

Glad to know the 'crack' on my Madeira is meant to be there! smile

Greyduster Thu 06-Aug-15 08:57:36

I really felt for her, but at least she didn't chuck it in the bin like the guy with the baked Alaska in the last series! I think they voted the right one off. He was out of his depth from the start. And his hat was very annoying!

AshTree Thu 06-Aug-15 08:02:02

I virtually wailed out loud when that poor girl took the silicone sleeve off the cake and it just collapsed in a mess. So sorry for her and yes, so pleased it didn't cost her her place.

NanKate Thu 06-Aug-15 07:30:00

Well I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode although Sue and is it Mel get on my nerves, but otherwise it is such easy viewing.

Mary was a bit croaky poor thing, Paul looked porky but those blue eyes are enough to melt a girl's heart.

SPOILER for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Desperately sorry for the contestant with with the melted cake, glad she wasn't voted off.

merlotgran Wed 05-Aug-15 22:08:45

Any excuse? grin

After over nine months of living in my new house without a cooker, my darling dad has treated me to a new one and so I might have one installed in time for the first programme of the new series next Wednesday. New bake ware to order too then, lovely. smile

Except for the lady who lives in France are they all England based ???

shysal Tue 28-Jul-15 09:14:56

An interesting bunch! The female body builder doesn't seem to have defined muscles that showed in the photo!

merlotgran Tue 28-Jul-15 09:00:45

Here are the contestants

I can't wait for GBBO to start. It gives me such good ideas for baking - just a shame they don't materialise though

aggie Fri 24-Jul-15 17:39:59

Well I never ! Badge glue ? My hands don't work like they used to and I am sure glued on badges would have looked better than my cobbling , the so called Scout is 12 and can knit , but I managed to catch him early to pass on that craft , he looked at me in horror when I offered him a needle and thread . Might have had something to do with the muttered yelps as I managed to sew my fingers to the shirt !

annodomini Fri 24-Jul-15 17:33:59

By the time I left the Brownies I was sewing on my own badges. I'm not sure I would let my youngest GS loose with a needle.

Nelliemoser Fri 24-Jul-15 17:19:34

anno I find the "Sound of Music" far to cheesy to enjoy but using the song in the advert made me laugh.

Nelliemoser Fri 24-Jul-15 17:16:26

The television is always pretty bad in the summer. I look forward to Bake off. There is a heck of a lot of skill and invention seen on that program.

I like the add for GBBO as well.

sweetpea Fri 24-Jul-15 15:42:27

I was a Brownie Guider for over 30 years, and our Brownies all had a go at sewing on badges , the ones that were 'glued' on by parents looked awful, and I don't think we are doing ourselves or our children any favours by selling Badge Glue, come on Scout Association it doesn't hurt boys one little bit having a try at sewing themselves!

ninathenana Thu 23-Jul-15 15:01:20

anno I will have to tell DD to look out for badge glue. She's a guide leader and rubbish at sewing grin

whenim64 Thu 23-Jul-15 14:27:22

I've only managed to endure a few minutes of The Sound Of Music before turning it off.

vegasmags Thu 23-Jul-15 14:11:26

anno - that film is known in our family as The Sound of Mucus grin

whitewave Thu 23-Jul-15 14:09:09

just thinking - another reason not to get rid of the bbc

whitewave Thu 23-Jul-15 13:56:19

Love it, but unhapppilycan't make any of it-constant dietsad
