Thought I must tell you about a range of shop made cakes I have discovered, that look, and taste just like excellent home made cake. When you have no time, or inclination to bake, these really are good, and I have never liked supermarket cakes in the past. It's probably only me that has never seen them before, but thought I must mention them anyway. They are from Budgens, and made in the Reading area by a company called Fathersons, not in boxes, in a sort of clear cling film cover, and the whole range is fab. The large cake costs £3.95 and the extra large one a pound more.In the interests of Gnettters we have sampled three,Victoria sponge, chocolate and coffee, but there are others as well.Mmmmmmmn.

I used to love Budgens and the cakes they sold - but don't have one near me!

Budgens have taken over the petrol station and shop in Torrington................just down the road from Lidl. Where I have to go to get things like Mr P's preferred brand of disposable razors.

Jane, although they are made in the Reading area, I imagine they are sold in all Budgen stores.
Phoenix, yes I know where you mean in Torrington, go and ask about these cakes, well worth the money.

I may have to 'bake' in a couple of weeks' time for a bit of a do - Budgens here I come!!

rosesarered Tue 18-Aug-15 20:09:43

Hi Rosequartz, yes, nobody would know you hadn't made it yourselfgrin

rosequartz Tue 18-Aug-15 20:14:42

Except possibly my neighbours who will be part of the shindig and frequent Budgens
I'll just dribble some icing or chocolate on them ....
blush

No Budgens up here sad

rosesarered Tue 18-Aug-15 20:27:51

Oh dear, Jane, are you in Scotland?

Jane10 Tue 18-Aug-15 20:29:38

Yes. Will just have to make do with M&S or Waitrose. Its a hard life!

rosequartz Tue 18-Aug-15 20:39:11

ps I will drizzle the icing/chocolate, not dribble ..... just in case one of my neighbours is reading this!
