There are two types of lids for the halogen oven. One that you completly remove (bit of a problem as to where to place it after removing it) the other which I have is hinged actually to the oven. I find this easy as it just opens up.

mine lasted about 3 years and blew up so have not renewed it as didnt use sufficiently to warrant buying another.
I found chicken portions cooked better, and it was handy for full english sausages bacon mushrooms when guests came, and also for keeping warm.
Also one portion meals.I prefer my slow cooker for casseroles and reheating/keeping warm....I love the self clean put in washing up liquid turn to cleaning setting and watch it wash.
I would think it would be brilliant for camping if you have electric hook up or a caravan ..

Which is the best one to buy? I'm never sure when I see them. Years ago I had something called a "Little Loving Oven" which was basically an oven element in a big, heavy lid, that sat on a ceramic base. I used it all the time but when the ceramic eventually broke or cracked, they were no longer being manufactured. The adverts I see for halogen ovens remind me of my little loving oven.

I have had one for 15 years, this one is 8 years old. I always roast chicken in mine , the skin crisps up lovely and it helps keep my big oven clean.
I do all meat that could splash a lot in it, it gets more fat out of meat and crisps food good, if that's how you like it. Belly pork is especially good

Didn't have a book with mine. Hildajennij just a leaflet. It only told you basic things to cook. I use it for grilling. baked potatoes, home made potatoes wedges and oven chips also like you roast potatoes. Other people have said they cook roasts dinners in it or puddings but have not been that adventurous what I like most about the halogen is that its on work surface and I can see food as its cooking

Don't they last Hilda?

Mine comes in really handy for making roast potatoes when there isn't enough room in the regular oven. My DH uses ours as a grill. I have done all sorts of things in mine. I like fish cooked in the halogen oven. I have made several recipes from the book that came with it. BTW the halogen oven I have now is my third.

I love the slow cooker thread, I am going to be more adventurous with mine.
I would also like to be more adventurous with my halogen.
I have bought another one for my DD as she has a toddler and a crawling 10 month old baby, so hot oven doors were an issue. The Halogen has solved this.
I would like to know how other GNers use theirs. Inspiration please!
