I asked our elder son the same question. He grinned, (he and his girl friend) We wouldn't waste time eating, we'd go upstairs and make the most of the time we had left.
I realised how the years divided us, so:
Roast turkey or pork, supported by onions. Served with baby broccoli, baby carrots, roasted potatoes and peppers. A gravy made with the stock, roasted onions and a splash of wine, red currant jelly and a glass of wine. Followed by a nut, cherry and brandy laden pudding with brandy cream.
We'd finish our cheese and crackling (if we'd eaten pork) and quaff a liqueur or two, hoping to feel thoroughly satiated
.
I keep a third of crackling back to eat hot, with cheese and biscuits.
Sometimes, I sprinkle a mix of salt and chilli before grilling
.
We should feel thoroughly satiated, sitting before an open log
fire.
