Sprouts....

I love sprouts as do my DGC. They like a "Sunday" dinner on a Monday (known as a Sunday/Monday dinner) and are VERY disappointed if there are no sprouts. They love them so much they count how many each have and are quite upset if their helping falls short of someone else's.

I do the Christmas dinner at mine and have always cooked the sprouts the night before. Slightly underdone, I finish them off in the Wok with chestnuts and bacon.

IMHO sprouts are over-rated. They appear to be virtually compulsory for Christmas dinner though I can think of much more appetising vegetables. Anyway, they have an unfortunate effect on my innards... . If I had been given a surfeit of sprouts, I'd put them on the compost heap. That way at least they would be of some use.

Fresh only for us and they have to be small and barely cooked.

DH does them sliced, fried with chopped up bacon and onion. They are delicious - one of my all-time favourites. DS hates them with a passion!!

Love sprouts. Well cooked, mashed, chopped up bacon and butter. I use this regularly as a side dish.

Was brought up on sprouts from the garden, they were boiled to death and mashed, I didn't know any different.....but loved them.

Love,love,love sprouts, cannot have too much of them. Buy and eat them fresh, any lweft overs, leftovers? get used in bubble and squeak or soup.

i absolutely love sprouts - eat them year round roasted with coconut oil, salt pepper and balsamic vinegar. Yum

i'd always go for fresh though

I love fresh sprouts with Christmas dinner. We buy them by the stick from nearlby farm.

Several years ago I planted the sprout stick in back garden until Christmas Day, so they'd keep fresh. Went out to get them on Christmas morning, and disaster, they'd all been scoffed by our adopted peacock!! He'd left us about two tiny ones.

I never have frozen, but I suppose they'd be OK if in a bubble and squeak type dish.

The only reason to freeze them Alea is that I've been given a carrier bag full of the little pests. This happens every year, I give away as many as I can but always end up with what seems like industrial quantities. It seems such a shame to bin them.

Sprout soup anyone?

We only have sprouts on Boxing Day (this year 28th January at least at our house!) in bubble and squeak so frozen ones are fine for that.

I've just thought - I cook then cool frozen sprouts for bubble and squeak - could I just thaw them and then chop and fry?

I love fresh ones, buy them on the stalk and they last ages.

Yuck for fresh and frozen ones- I cannot bear to look at them.

I don't think they freeze at all well. I have tasted supermarket frozen ones and they bear no resemblance to fresh ones.

Especially when Sainsbury's can do it for you?

Is there a reason for freezing them?
