I've never seen them in those supermarkets either.

Only just noticed them in Lidl!

I googled them and found that they are a cross between kale and Brussels sprouts. Fifteen years in the making, apparently! And according to an article about them in The Telegraph earlier this year, they have been on sale in M&S, Asda, Sainsbury, Waitrose and Co-op. Well I've never seen them in Sainsbury, M&S or Co-op and I shop in those stores regularly. Probably don't live in a posh enough area grin

Yep, baby sprouting broccoli! That's why they taste like broccoli!

rosequartz Sun 29-Nov-15 21:13:25

They're not like sprouts, they are more like broccoli (sprouting broccoli) but they are leaves iyswim

I like sprouts, but only if after cooking they are fried with a bit of butter and chopped cooked bacon.

I haven't got a Lidl near me.

Marks and Sparks had those last year. They didn't have them when I looked last week. They are much nicer than ordinary sprouts.

See them on the allotment!

Yes, we had some last night! I just cooked them for a few minutes and they were delicious.

I think they must be purple sprouting broccoli before it sprouts! So they must be good for you too. I like sprouts as well.

(Lidl, and have never seen them before, but I expect we'll see them everywhere before too long)

I had these last week - delish.

Love sprouts- well love all brassica

Indinana Sun 29-Nov-15 20:33:07

Well they were delicious! I shall definitely be buying these again over standard Brussels sprouts, which I'm really not keen on at all.

NfkDumpling Sun 29-Nov-15 19:44:25

They look like my purple sprouting before it sprouts properly.

loopylou Sun 29-Nov-15 19:43:01

Yes! We had some last week. They're lovely, like a kale/cabbage cross, very tasty.

Never come across these before. DH picked them up in Lidl and we'll be trying them out shortly. The cooking instructions say to drop them into boiling water and cook for about 3 minutes. Has anyone else had these?
