Yes, I did make the chowder. It's for dinner tonight. I think I'll go ahead and make some cheesy bread.

Sounds nice if perhaps a bit heavy - lots of people not eating so much bread now.

I prefer bread to potatoes and if I lived alone I would never bother with spuds at all. DH loves them though so I do cook them and have one or two to his seven or eight. My Irish ancestry has not given me the pratie gene!

There are so many lovely breads available either to buy or make. I am very happy in France where bread is served at every meal instead of potatoes as here.

Chowders are lovely and rich so I'd want a contrast in the bread so wouldn't have cheesy bread.

The same when having really good cheeses - I prefer plain biscuits or baguette to accompany, not walnut/fruity bread.

I would go for crackers with chowder, an American combination. Lovely.

Nina DH is a keen cyclist and does anything up to 70 miles on each of a couple of days a week out with his club. He uses his bike for all outings locally too and only goes in the car when we go out together or on trips to the tip with rubbish. He is not a big meat eater and potatoes are not as expensive as meat so I suppose it balances out. He just needs quite a lot of filling food!

Our local bakery does some gorgeous cheese and onion baps. I will make soup, any soup, just to eat one with it.

I can't understand why Greg on Masterchef often repeats that cheese has no place with fish. I totally disagree. My favourite quick meal is smoked cod loin with cheesy mash and veg. I love cheesy fish pie too!

Crisp cheesy bread, still slightly warm, and unbuttered, went with the chowder extremely well.

Well he has been described as an old git from time to time Galen! I can't say he's thin as a rake but he's certainly as fit as a flea and eats like a horse too.
