indinana if you need any more help with disposing of whisky there is ALWAYS room in my drinks cupboard ?

NanaandGrampy Sat 05-Mar-16 09:06:21

My newest make is Gin and Lime marmalade and I can heartily recommend it . Happy to share the recipe if anyone wants it.

It's like killing two birds with one stone ;-)

We inherited several large bottles of whisky when the PiL died. As we don't drink the stuff (except as medicinal, haha, when we have heavy colds) they just sat in the cupboard gathering dust.

And then I had a brainwave - whisky marmalade! So now I buy tins of Hartley MaMade prepared Seville oranges and substitute half of the water with whisky. Each tin makes about six jars of marmalade and it is absolutely wonderful!

Mmm thick toast and lime and lemon marmalade or lemon cheese - sadly not eaten bread for 3 weeks now and really miss my toast sad

Elrel Fri 04-Mar-16 23:23:19

Jings - thanks, I'll try that reduced sugar one!

Elrel Fri 04-Mar-16 23:21:56

Ana, Tizliz - I'm not on commission for Roses Lime marmalade but glad to be reminding people how good it tastes. Enjoy!

Stansgran Fri 04-Mar-16 20:54:38

I've just bought some home made jam from the green grocer's shop in Lanchester. It is delicious.ill send some to you Jalima but it will have to be virtual jam.

Jalima Fri 04-Mar-16 19:57:49

I just made a Victoria Sponge, only had lemon curd to put in it not raspberry jam. It was one of jingls earlier posts that started me thinking about it grin

We've only had one piece each so far.

I rarely eat marmalade but DH likes Lidls (thank goodness).

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Mar-16 19:31:07

I read somewhere that this is one of the best marmalades you can get. reviews sound good

(Get mine from church sales)

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Mar-16 19:27:50

jings the moment I saw the thread title I knew it was you!grin

Tizliz Fri 04-Mar-16 16:49:03

Rose's Lime Marmalade, haven't had that for years - probably since I left home at 17! Want some now, will have to look out for it. OH likes thick cut Oxford which I hate. We have some American marmalade a customer sent but it is very sweet.

I can't believe that children don't have a sugar rush. Give them a can of pop and they are off. If I had all three grandsons at the same time it was banned.

Ana Fri 04-Mar-16 16:23:37

Inspired by this thread, I bought some Rose's Lime Marmalade (had forgotten all about it!) and hae just had some on toast...lovely smile

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Mar-16 16:22:01

I have now moved on to apricot jam. hmm

hildajenniJ Fri 04-Mar-16 16:12:38

Don't much care for marmalade, but I've just eaten two tubes of Parma violets! A large bag appeared on my kitchen table, and as nobody else likes them I thought I'd better have some.grin

nanaK54 Fri 04-Mar-16 16:00:06

Marmalade - oh yum - shame I haven't got any, I might well have joined in

Katek Fri 04-Mar-16 14:37:34

Mmm.....marmalade sandwiches, yum.

Anya Fri 04-Mar-16 13:53:28

Toasted and home-made !!! Did you make the marmalade too bags?

Yes, I read that article and thought 'they ought to see GS1' - mind you I also read an article by the Flat Earth Society last week hmm

thatbags Fri 04-Mar-16 13:50:04

I had a thick slab of toasted home-made bread with marmalade for lunch too, jings. Unlike you I've run out of housework energy though after a really good clean of the bathroom this morning.

BTW I read an article the other day that said kids don't have sugar rushes. If that's true I expect it's true for adults too.

Badenkate Fri 04-Mar-16 13:06:18

Nutella on anything is really good ?. I also like marmalade with ginger in it. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I can't taste anything at the moment, so its all rather wasted on me ?

Elrel Fri 04-Mar-16 12:56:37

Ah, thank you Alima! I had a Nutella moment on Pancake Day. I thought a light spread would be nice but the jar was in a cold cupboard. Wanting to eat the pancakes while still warm I hacked out chunks and rolled the pancakes around them. Mmmmm.

Alima Fri 04-Mar-16 12:47:00

No Elrel, once you get the sugar rush from the Nutella and honey you will whizz around and use far more calories that way. That is the answer!
