Top 3 puddings?

Looking forward to a meal out tonight with in laws. We are being taken to an Italian restaurant and as /i am a 'pudding person' I am very much looking forward to coffee gelato for dessert. Tomorrow we have family over and I will make a salted caramel sauce to drizzle over stewed apple and vanilla ice cream.

All this excess got me thinking about my favourite puddings ... could I even begin to choose a top three ? Well rather like choosing fav films - these would have to be the three in the frame just for now ... and in no particular order ...

white chocolate cheesecake with a berry coulis

apple pithivier with salted caramel sauce and cream

the aforementioned coffee gelato.

Are you a pudding person and if so what would you like to see on a menu? smile

1.apple pie custard
2.warn chocolate fudge cake with cream
3.Christmas pudding with cream
I have number 3 whenever I can.

I love puddings but eat them rarely as they ate too calorific. Sometimes I will have one instead of lunch or afternoon tea. Some favourites are:-
Chocolate mousse, creme brûlée, blackberry crumble with cream or ice cream, lemon pie ( not tarte or merengue though they are nice too), Pavlova, treacle tart.

I have a Margarite Patten recipe for a French Tarte which has chocolate pastry base, a lemon soufflé filling and a dark chocolate icing ( made with a bar of Bourneville) which is out of this world. It takes an hour to make, looks sensational and tastes divine. I used to make it as a showstopper for dinner parties but don't have these any more, alas, so I don't know if I will ever have this pudding again!

Forgot another favourite, lemon meringue pie!

Alima did you grow up in Kent? A lot of people beyond the county don't seem to know what gypsy tart is. That is definitely another favourite for me.

Sorry I only suggested 3 puddings in the OP! Feel free to add your other seven!

Didn't get the much anticipated coffee gelato yesterday evening sad. MIL asked us to come back to her's for coffee and cake / pudding. The lemon mousse she served up was delicious, so I shouldn't grumble, but I was so looking forward to that gelato - had forgone the starter to make room for it! There was that awful moment at the restaurant table where everyone else said they were too full / didn't want a dessert and I was just too shy to ask! (Quite funny really)

My favourite 3 to make are chocolate trifle, summer pudding, and home made ice cream, especially damson or lemon.
Eating out I'd love lemon posset, tiramisu, Eton mess.

Oh goodness, how do I choose just three! Probably , pecan pie, sticky toffee pudding, then a toss up to decide between creme brûlée , panacotta, or pavlova !

TerriBull Sat 12-Mar-16 20:46:46

Pretty much anything except the vile rice pudding served up at my junior school, which left a life long loathing of lumpy textures ingrained in my memory angry I do however have fantastic memories o the following which I would nominate as favourites, my grandmother's steamed jam puddings, profiteroles as served in the Spaghetti House chain in London in the 1970s, which were, if my memory serves me well, were only two, but larger than the usual three, smothered in a milk chocolate sauce, not dark chocolate which seems to be the norm. Thirdly, an American desert, Banana Cream Pie, like Banoffi but with a custard topping instead of the toffee part.

What is BlackBerry slump?. Sounds so exciting.

annodomini Sat 12-Mar-16 20:28:04

Apple pie and custard
Pavlova - but has to be avoided because cream really upsets me!
Tiramisu

More years ago than I care to remember I went to continental cookery classes. One of the things we cooked was Gateau Pithivier (sp). No apple was involved, the filling was ground almonds, eggs and sugar and it was beautiful but I no longer cook or eat puddings.

Kittye Sat 12-Mar-16 19:42:35

New York cheesecake,Tiramisu and Eton Mess.
In fact my last meal would be Lasagne and one of the above.
I'm not very adventurous with my food ?

BBbevan Sat 12-Mar-16 19:40:18

Blueberry slump, syrup sponge with custard and creme brulee

Lillie Sat 12-Mar-16 19:32:17

Cherry clafoutis, tarte tatin and creme brulee. I think I must have been French in a previous life.

NanKate Sat 12-Mar-16 19:32:06

Blackberry and apple crumble with custard.
Sherry trifle
Fresh fruit pavlova

In the 1960s we went to a French restaurant, very daring for us then, and I had Mont Blanc which was meringue, cream and crushed sweet chestnuts, it was wonderful.

Indinana Sat 12-Mar-16 19:25:13

Oh I love puddings! The only ones I routinely avoid are those made with chocolate, just too rich and sickly (I also tend to avoid chocolate cakes).

Favourite three:

Eton Mess
Treacle tart with clotted cream
Syrup sponge pudding with custard

And there are so many more. I too would have liked to be able to list my favourite 10 puddings grin

whitewave Sat 12-Mar-16 18:59:46

1. Trifle
2. Panna cotta
3. Bowl of summer soft fruit with clotted cream
3a. Junket and clotted cream.

Daddima Sat 12-Mar-16 18:56:27

For me, it depends how filling the previous courses were.

Sticky toffee pudding, pavlova, sorbet, creme brulee, fruit salad, tarte tatin, pineapple upside down cake, are all in there.

mumofmadboys Sat 12-Mar-16 18:51:45

I love all puddings unfortunately. Favourites - sticky toffee pudding, pavlova with raspberries and creme brulee.

Alima Sat 12-Mar-16 18:51:22

My all time favourite is gypsy tart from school dinner days. Nowadays strawberry cheesecake and any version of death by chocolate go down very well.

kittylester Sat 12-Mar-16 18:42:07

Being gf there are few puds for me to choose from but
Creme brulee
Raspberry pavlova with chocolate drizzled over it
Nigellas fruit with white chocolate and limoncello.

I'm also trying to find the recipe for Mary Berry's lemon and lime pudding that was on the television the other night. Oooh and I love baked apples with mincemeat in.

pollyparrot Sat 12-Mar-16 18:36:55

Peanut butter cheesecake

Syrup sponge with custard

Chocolate cake with ice-cream

merlotgran Sat 12-Mar-16 18:35:16

I couldn't name ten puddings either as I don't have a sweet tooth but I do like a fruit crumble and imperfect's apple pithivier with salted caramel sauce sounds tempting.

tanith Sat 12-Mar-16 18:29:38

Lucky you Charleygirl I wish I didn't have such a sweet tooth, in fact I don't think I could name 3 favourites I LOVE THEM ALL!
oh! sticky toffee pudding and banoffee pie are exceptions just too sweet.

Charleygirl Sat 12-Mar-16 18:09:52

Thankfully I prefer savoury- none of these do anything for me and I probably would not touch 9/10's of them.

hildajenniJ Sat 12-Mar-16 18:06:34

I love puddings, and make a fabulous pavlova. I usually fill it with whipped cream and fresh fruit, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. If we are having a family party I'm always asked to provide one.

As for my three Favourites, sticky toffee pudding
summer pudding
creme brulee.
