I still like a crisp sandwich - preferably cheese and onion.

We had weetabix with butter and jam on top.

We had shredded wheat with jam on top. A bit difficult to eat.

It was bread and lard in our house. Delicious it was too. Although I wasn't too keen on the scrunch. Thes days I would use caster sugar. If we were allowed such things thes days. sad

You must be a posh lot having sugar sandwiches, they were sugar butties in our house!

Used to have cold Yorkshire pudding on a Monday sprinkled with sugar!

Sugar sandwiches were great. We used to get Cadbury's Dairy Milk between two slices of bread and butter as a treat as well.

Did anyone else used to drink vinegar straight from the bottle? My mother used to say it would dry up my blood. I couldn't do that now - not now that I've progressed to the marzipan.

I love jam and cheese too grannylyn. My mum used t make us sugar sandwiches - I always thought that was because we had run out of other things. Yummy tho!

Sugar sandwiches! Now you're talking!!! smile

I still have a strange after-taste from that mixed peel. hmm

grannylyn65 Tue 15-Mar-16 18:19:11

I knew who the poster was when I read title thread!! I like cheese with apricot jam; boring I know'
When I was little, used to love sugar sandwiches which probably explains a lot grin

Marzipan - I always make sure I have a lot left over in the cupboard, then eat it till I feel physically sick. I used to do the same with Nutella, but went cold turkey and stopped buying it.

Maybe this thread will develop into other weird, but tasty things we find in our cupboards smile

When I make my Christmas cake I put left over mixed fruit, candid peel and cherries into a kilner jar and cover them in sherry. By Christmas they are nicely boozy and a tablespoon over icecream makes a lovely treat dessert.

I love it when I find a stray bar of chocolate in our food cupboard, - it is a long awkward cupboard that disappears into a corner and all sorts of things get lost in it - makes the Spring sort out rewarding most times!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 15-Mar-16 16:10:59

It was the remainder of the mixed peel left over from when I made my Christmas cake.

It had gone a bit dry, but that gave it the effect of eating nuts. Tasty, delectable nuts.

Hit the spot a treat it did. I am now awaiting the sugar rush, when perhaps I will get the ironing done. smile
